Looks like everything is about to come together. Of course, I'd just about bet that what seems on the right track will be met with new waves of conflict. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Good bet. Nothing ever comes easy, does it? Of course, if it did, it wouldn't make for a very good story.

An interesting set up chapter. I guess we now know and have a time frame for the next shoe to drop and real evidence will of the bad guys moving on Brian will happen or has to happen.

Thanks, Lance. You're correct. What happens in the next 30 days sets in motion a chain of events that carries through to the climax of the story (complete now in 50 chapters plus an epilogue).

All of this makes me distrust the big pharmaceutical and the government less than I already did. You make what could become to much information interesting to read by getting into the personal lives of your characters.

Thanks so much, Beth. You made a very interesting point. That's precisely the reason why I don't particularly enjoy some purely action/adventure stories--because they tend to be all action and little character development. I think the characters are usually more interesting than the pure action, and that's why I've tried to combine the two in this story. Nice to know my efforts are paying off.

A few years ago I read a mystery novel about a fictitious pharmaceutical company concealing long term negative effects of a drug. Even though that story and your story are fiction, I believe some of these things actually happen.
I can't wait to find out how the manipulated texts take place and the effects. The next 30 days should be very interesting.

It does happen in real life too. Netflix had a good series called Painkiller about the real life Purdue family and their pushing of OxyContin so highly and failing to warn about its addictive potential, and, in fact, denying it was addictive.

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the big drug companies resort to these sort of tactics at all and Brian will need to be on his toes just in case. Another good read, JIm, cheers

Thanks, valda. My research showed that many of these things have been done by Big Pharma in the past. It's a shame how ruthless some companies are. Hopefully, most are not like this, but there are always a few who are.

Hello Jim,
so, the plot thickens. I'm glad the judge honored Fran's request for a wire tap. Who knows what may come out of that? It's shameful the things people will do for money. When is it ever enough? I was watching some excerpts from the grilling of RFK today, and the hypocrisy of several of the senators, who have accepted over 1.2 million dollars from big pharma asking him if he's going to benefit from any of his proposed programs was enough to make me sick. Anyway, it's all gonna come out in the wash.
Have a blessed evening. Well done.

Thanks, Tom. I've always loved the expression, "the pot calling the kettle black." Seems very appropriate in the situation you mentioned.

This is another excellent chapter. Could you remind me what drug is harmful and what drug is helpful? This is an interesting story. I do not see any room for improvement. Have a blessed day.

Thanks very much, Lee. The original drug that became harmful at a high dose is Dipraxa. The helpful drug is Glyptophan.

I suspect Fran is right to get the wire-tap set up. When Dana's "tough" friend doesn't do anything, her boss may hire someone else. There is a lot of pressure among the big companies to get their product on top. Her boss is really frightened with only one product left on the market.

Exactly right, Carol. When Merra sees he isn't getting any results and Brian continues with his trials, he's likely to find someone else to do something more serious. Thanks for this perceptive review.

Wow, things are moving fast. Hope they can stop Merra. How will they bug his phone? Anyway, I agree with you that big companies do have that mentality. Decades ago when I worked for an oil company, my boss told me that if anyone invented the ability to run cars on water, that he/she would be killed.
Great continuation of your book!

Hi, Helen. Great to have you back. I hope you enjoyed your month off. We're about 55% of the way through the story now, and the pace picks up quite a bit in the second half.
With the coming of AI, I wonder if a lot of companies will be worried about staying in business and will try to fight it.
Thanks for your kind words and for sharing that story with me.

I'm glad they got the wiretap. I do hope things work out in a positive way, but I am also afraid. I want a happy ending. I am still worried about Dana. She is a loose cannon. This is another good write.

Thanks, Barbara. Dana kind of lucked out here and got away with it. Let's see if she keeps pushing her luck or if she begins listening to Fran.
