What a lovely story about rekindled love. If it's meant to be then is should.
Not to many people get a second chance. I found this story very refreshing and a great way to start my new year.
Well done and good luck in the contest

It is a good story. The reunion of old loves seems to be the general theme of this contest. This should do well, more so with some additional editing. Also look closer at the speech tags and quote marks.
notes:
Lord Aynsley asked' have you been officially informed of her arrival or is it mere speculation?'
-Lord Aynsley asked, 'Have you been officially informed of her arrival or is it mere speculation?'
On this final day of 1945 the afternoon air was chilly with a hint of frost.
-suggest changing this to 1845, if you are doing horses and carriages, also, this would explain the language.
'Darling Lady Eleanor.' Lord Aynsley
-'Darling Lady Eleanor,' Lord Aynsley
'It's a Happy New Year for his Lordship.' he murmured.
-'It's a Happy New Year for his Lordship,' he murmured.
