Great ideas. Wall Street and Main Street have teamed up with their advertising to convince us to go into debt or be shamed for not spending thousands that we do not have.
Best wishes.

Of course, you're 100% correct. God never meant this holiday to be about what we cn get and then give in return. Jesus overthrew the money changers and does not want greed or lust to be involved in the holiday that bears His name.

What a great idea... and very thoughtful. You are right, the best presents come from the heart.
When my son and daughters were children, we used to charge 1,000 dollars every Christmas. It was crazy, we bought things we couldn't afford for stuff the kids may get tired of it in a week.
With age comes wisdom. I only by a few presents to the daughter I live with. Shares her home with me and pay for the majority of what we need. I contribute what I can but I only have ssdi income. Living in California is expensive. On my own I would not even afford rent.
The rest of my family get priceless presents like the ones you mention.
I hope you have very happy holidays.

Sometimes just the gift of time is enough. I know my boys always ask what I want to for Christmas and my answer is to have them come home for Christmas. Truly that's all I want. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.

Thank you for these wonderful suggestions, Jesse, if we don't have the money to buy really great gifts to people give in other ways, mow the lawn, do their dishes, vacuum their carpet, merry Christmas My friend, blessings Roy

Another fine poem, Jesse....and you're a so right....we've become so commercial-obsessed as a culture and have forgotten how to be a human being. Just throw money at the problem

Your letter is sensitively expressed, Jesse, to prick consciences and remind us all of our 'global village' responsibilities to each other. Often requiring little effort, even the smallest efforts can mean so much. I like this as a continuation of your last post, Enough, and I think it would be great to collate these messages in a book. Well done, Jesse, for speaking from your heart. Take care Debbie

What a precious gift this it, Jesse. You are right, too many of us these days can't give what they think they should. The Christmas spirit gets lost in the worry, and that is so sad. You are right, perhaps a personal poem to each of those we love and care about, would most likely give more pleasure to those receiving such a thoughtful gift. Well done, I'm off to write some poems. Happy Christmas, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

I agree with you here Jesse, homemade gifts for me are much more appreciated than bought gifts as someone has given their time and effort to make them. I once knitted 12 pairs of mittens to give as presents at Christmas and I wonder if any of them are still being used! I enjoyed your fine words here, love Dolly x x x
