What a memorable summer that was for you! And you were at some of the places we had visited since we lived in Houston for six years. What an eye-opener for you and yet God allowed you to meet two people you knew from grade school in Newton!!

I don't want your summer vacation to end. I'm really enjoying reading it. It is fun and you've had a lot of firsts. Thank you for sharing these memoirs with us.

It sounds very much like you had a very interesting summer of 1953. In 1953. I began myself more in high school so I'm assuming that that's about where you were at that time. Have a good day and may God bless you. Patricia.

Seems to be a summer to remember, and remember you have. So many kinfolk. So different than my family but with six kids visiting was a challenge even with a 55 Chevy SW with the third seat which was hogged by the two youngest girls.

You're really getting around Beth, it was funny back then, a lot of the extra youth that you may meet was through parent's friends or relatives, there was very few girls hung around with the young males such as me at the time, well done Beth, I love your biographical works, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you, Chuck. I did like Texas, and I got to see quite a bit of it. The only thing I don't like is the part around Abilene and the northwestern corner. Five of mother half-sibling moved to Texas. The petroleum refining industry offered good paying jobs. Now Texas is full of people related to me, most of whom I've never met.

So many relatives to visit! Sounds like you had some amazing experiences that summer, with everybody wanting to welcome you and offer a good time.

Edit: with it(s) street-lined palms (palm-lined streets)
seemed to come too quickly in spite (of) the fact six weeks ...

Yes, kids these days don't understand we had to earn our money. And everyone went visiting everybody else. Family meant a lot more then. I am close with my two younger sisters now, and do not know how I managed so long without them. I always wanted to see comedies. And , I had to have popcorn and coke at the movies. Otherwise it is uncivilized. Karen

Thank you, Karen. Family was very important back in the day. I had no sibling but many cousins and a lot of even close one I never got to meet. I glad you have sisters who are close.

I also had a crush on a cousin.
Alas, he did not know that I existed. :-)

What a jam-packed six weeks. Sounds like everyone was determined to show you a good time. Going back to Mississippi could have gone either way - totally bored, and totally content to live at a slower pace, without surprises.

Now that sounds like a summer vacation that every girl would like to have in her teenage diary. You did an awesome job, as usual, in telling the story and entertaining the reader. Well done.
