Wow, a family with 12 children! That's really amazing! Your mom was really strong and resilient! I'm sure your parents worked hard all their lives and they had a lot of love to share. Thanks for sharing this cute story. I think age 4 is probably more difficult to adapt because a child has a set view of the world by then. I remember one four-year-old boy who said the same thing about his little brother, "Take him back!" He was furious!
Congratulations on the win!!

Ciao mystery poet, you now have 7 votes.
I could connect to your story in part. My father wanted another child and apparently my mamma said no. He thought he would do better with me .
I still remember now my father asking me .. and I gave him a big fat NO.
I hardly had practically no family life .. went to boarding school already at 6 and 1/2 till I was 21 .
I saw my parents two months spread out over a single year so I didn't want to share that little time we had together with no one else.
I grew up to be a loner.
I can understand your frustration and why you wanted to see Danny returned.
A great read!

Thank you. I would have given you Danny if you asked. Lol. A large family was a lot of fun, and I did learn to care for Danny. It sounds like you missed a lot in your life.

Truly I wanted to be the only child.
and in boarding school, I went to 4 different ones, there were many boarders.
I grew up to be a loner, never married or had kids but I have had many pets, the joys of my life.
So all good!
keep safe!

I have no kids either, but not by choice. I lost all three of my sons from unrelated incidents. I'm content now at seventy-eight. I live with five cats, a dog, and my niece.

I?m sorry for your great loss😔
Pets are beautiful life campaigns , they are present in the good and bad times
and great feet warmers in
Winter! 😝

Love your story. I am one of twelve children, eight of them born after me so I guess I just got used to the additions. There were many times I felt kinda of lost in the middle. There were two boys first, then six girls in a row, and when my mother was next expecting, the oldest boy told her he would rather have a dog than another sister.

Thank you, and thanks for sharing your sibling's story with me. Being one of a dozen is something not experienced by many. It's nice to hear from someone who understands.

This is an amusing read and you tell well the story of Danny, the interloper brother who just appeared in your young life. My goodness one of twelve thats a cricket team. This one made me smile, good luck in the contest. Certainly a photograph to be remembered.
cheers

Thank you. Going up in a large family was fun, even if Danny did take my spot as a baby. Lol.

This is so good. I feel like it gives me a peek into your mind as a kid and a peek into your world growing up. The piece is deep, well-written, and interesting to read. Great job overall.

This was such a pleasure to see and read. My mom was from large family, nine siblings. She was one of the younger ones. How adorable and good that your sibling captured the moment on film. Thank you for sharing this well written story, memory, and adorable photo.
Best wishes,
Alex

Thank you. Carol is still alive and remembers taking that photo. She didn't expect to capture me having a jealous fit, but she did. Lol

You're welcome. It's priceless. :)

Very well written. Good work.
My bet is that you are just the person to do it, too (send him back to where he came from).
Good luck in the contest.

I can understand that feeling of being usurped, and by a boy, too, to make matters worse! These things mellow with hindsight but are very real at the time. You've made an entertaining story of it.

Thank you. Yeah, it was a big blow to my ego. We get over it with time.

I was born on my older sister's birthday. When I was too or three she asked my Mom if we could return me to Sears, she might could get a dress in exchange. My Mom told her the time had already passed by to do so. She has been upset with me ever since. :-)Karen
