What a heart rendering story told by your, as usual excellent poetry. Well Easter over and we are into Autumn. Just had a few days away in a beautiful part of our country, I'm on the watch out for a poem or story I could post. Happy April to you and your loved ones.

-Great artwork and nice presentation, Debi.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-Thanks for sharing about Nolan.
-Reaching the 50th anniversary is a real milestone.
-I am sorry about his daughter's passing, and how
wonderful that he and his wife raised her children.
-Seventeen is so young to go in the service, and
it sounds like a bad situation with his sergeant,
but Nolan did what was right. It was sad
that it took so many times to do so.

Congratulations on having a book to be published,
and reaching your 50th wedding anniversary, Nomi.
Have a very Happy Birthday, too!

This seems very personal ans so I felt very much as an outsider reading it. I felt the rhyming worked well and the meter made it easy to read, I was surprised that minister rhymes so well with confer They look so different.
I am unsure about this line; 'An interview with him tells much, that I did long ago.' is he talking about you, or did you mean he? I have given this 5 stars because it was a positive thing to read.

Hi Mark, yes, that is why it is important to read the book for newbies as one of the things it says is get to know people by reading for a while first. If you looked in my portfolio you would see maybe a hundred tribute poems.

These biographical kinds are extremely difficult because I am given so much information and to put them into a poem that makes sense, keep in perfect meter, correct syllable count and rhyme at the end. And keep the stanzas making sense. Sometimes it is up to the reader to use a little common sense and realize that a line that says an interview with him tells much that I did long ago. Why would anyone ever wonder if it was an interview that he did with me?
After all we were talking about his book and the poem is about him. I think your question is a little picky. However I moved it to the bottom line and reworded it a little to hopefully make it easier to understand.

As a newbie, it would be hard for you to understand these poems. They are for friends here, but also biographical to tell his friends a little more about him that they don't know.
But Mark, I do appreciate all of the kind comments you made. Thank you, my friend. Love, Debi

I find the term newbie insulting and offensive. I was simply offering you advice on how you might make your writing better. If you don't like feedback why did you put up for review.
reply by the author on 04-Apr-2024
You know Mark, I was merely explaining to you about these poems and I also told you I changed one line. As much as I agree with you about the term newbie, you would have to take that up with everyone here, because that is what they call new people. However, like you, I did not care to be called one either when I first got here.
reply by Mark Jackson on 04-Apr-2024
I can assure you that I will not be adopting the term. I don't like being call it and so I will not call anyone else it. I have no idea what peoples experience is and what wealth they bring with them.
reply by the author on 04-Apr-2024
You are absolutely right. I guess the more I heard it, the more it became less offensive to me. However it helps to hear someone else speak up and say they don't like it. There are so many new people who come in here and act like they know it all in the first month and aren't respectful enough to watch, read and pay attention how things are done. Those maybe are the reason for the term. I just know it helps if they read the book that was made for them. I welcome you and sorry we got off on the wrong foot. It is just hard for a new person to understand these as they are done as a service to everyone. I apologize if my comments seemed rude in any way. That is not me. I hope we can be friends. Debi

I hope so to, and thank you for your welcome. I feel our writing styles might clash but it doesn't mean we have to.

Yes, Jehovah Witnesses don't celebrate holidays or birthdays. I have a Jehovah Witness friend.

The poem covers a lot that I didn't know. Well done as always.

Love,
MariVal

Yes, Nomi is a little bit more outgoing than some of the other Jehovah Witness as I think he has been excited about his birthday poem for some time. However, I wonder if things aren't changing for them too. I am not sure but he was a gracious recipient and it helps that we are very close. We call ourselves brother and sister. I could be so lucky to have more brothers just like him. Thanks, Marival for the sweet review and words for Nomi and his poem. And just as I talk about him being like a brother, you know how I feel about you. Love, Debi

Aaahh, I did a little switcheroo on you, huh? LOL. Hi QC, but the truth is he is a pastor and a veteran and the flag represented both of those two things.
So thanks for the kind words for Nomi's poem. Thanks again, dear friend.

Hi Debi, I enjoyed reading your poem. Your description of Noli is well illustrated in your words. The picture gives your poem an added touch. I see they have been married a long time, that's good. Great job. You do such a great job for everyone's birthday. Love, Brenda

One more thing, Hon. would you mind giving me a little information about yourself, like how many years you have been married, the girls ages now, spell their names for me to make sure I have them right, career, just a little more about yourself. I plan on doing a special one for your birthday this year.

This is a lovely poem in honor of Nomi's birthday. He was really brave to go up against a military officer who had silenced 65 previous soldiers who had good cause to want the officer prosecuted. You did a really good job introducing us to Nomi/alias Nolan.

Carol, yes, I wrote about it in a 2022 interview with him and it is really interesting, how he stood up to the guy, even tho the sergeant alway intimidated all the guys and tried with Nomi too.

I thank you for all the kind words for Nomi and his poem. I know he is reading all the thoughtful birthday greetings, and he said to tell you all how much he appreciates them. Thanks again, my awesome friend.

Hi Debi,
This poem tells us he has had a full life and is humble about it.
The second to last stanza confuses me. Is his book published or bring published. Or are you spoof two different books?
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great day
Joan

Hi Joan, I guess I don't see where there could have been any confusion. Maybe it was how you read it. It says that you can read about his journey. Then it says his published book WILL tell and that we hope he lets us know when it is finished. Everyone else seemed to know that we were talking about the same book the whole time. But I have those days when if it isn't spelled out completely too. Yet I work very hard to make the facts as understandable as possible. Which is very hard with keeping the meter and syllable count and keep it making sense.. at least I try hard to.
Unlike some where you are lost to understand because they just write weird, you know? I hope that helps, Hon. also I didn't understand something tho that you wrote. What is a spoof book?
Thanks for the kind comments too. Love, Debi

    You?re welcome, Debi.
Using published in the past tense means it is already in print and will means future release. Maybe if you said to be published

I guess that might have been confusing, but it said his published book Will tell. In other words when it is published. Kinda like saying about a pregnant woman, her baby will show that she has so much to give. It is saying when it happens. The word will makes all the difference in both cases. At least that is how I see it. But I do understand what you were saying too, my friend. And if you really feel it wasn't explanatory, I will go in and edit it. Thanks for your input.
So thanks so much, Joan. Hugs!! Love, Debi

You only begin to tell the story of this man's amazing life, so full of family love and commitment to both God and country. Another great birthday poem. Birthday wishes and blessings for Nolan.

Oh Ginda, that is so true about Nomi. I only scratched the surface. I did an interview with him in Sept of 22 and that has a lot of facts about him.
I thank you for all the kind words for Nomi and his poem. I know he is reading all the thoughtful birthday greetings, and he said to tell you all how much he appreciates them. Thanks again, my awesome friend.
