Poem has two syllables here, too, my friend, and your poem has brought tears to my eyes. You were blessed, Paul.
What an exceptional choice as winner for this contest! (Congratulations. It is superb.)

This is one of the best poems I have read in a long time. I can picture you on your dad's lap as he reads from that old book of poems. I also learned to have a love for poetry at a young age. I am happy to be back on Fanstory after being off for a while. Will look for more of your poems.

Oh goodness, this is a wonderful, touching poem. Your grandfather must have left you lots of cherished times. I hope you do well with this poem. Best of luck.

This is a beautiful story describing the relationship between you and your dad, written in a poetry form. It flows evenly, smoothly, and tenderly, allowing the reader to envision a young child being read to at bedtime. I could almost hear the lovely poems. Best wishes in the contest.

This is a wonderful poem. The poem is well-crafted and flows well. Good message in the poem. I like the rhyming scheme throughout the poem. You expressed fond memories of your father reading to you out of the book. Nice picture that compliments the poem well. Nice job.

This is a lovely and well structured verse with your book of poetry forming a thread through your life from your father's lap in infancy to your eventual reunion with him when your "Earthbound spirit is set free." You beautifully capture the intimacy and love you have for this book that ages with you and never loses its precious memories. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thanks, Debbie. That book sits on one of my shelves. I have bought a more recent edition to save the wear and tear on the original.

It is a touching and heartfelt piece. Memories are gifts when they are of the love we share with another. Time will never allow us to go back but we have the experience and ability to recall it till we can see the ones we love again.

I love this. And it reminds me of an old book of nursery, rhymes, written and illustrated in the 1940s that my mother had as a little girl, and read to me as a little girl, and I read it to my little girls. It is back on the shelf, waiting for my granddaughter to get a little older. Your poem was so well expressed and I thought of my book on the shelf the whole time. Thanks so much for sharing. Julie.
