I love how you take us through this poem. Starting with being the boy asking for the poem to be read to him right through being the one who is reading the poem to the next generation. They rhythm of your words work well with the poem.

Wonderful poem. So tender, sad and nostalgic. You used great rhymes and powerful visual, like the verses: And a finger on my nose,
And then he'd say, with a wink and a nod,
"Son, this is the way it goes."
I'm definitely voting for you.... I kinda think I know who you are...

Wow, this is very sweet, though were you really that smart to phrase a phrase. j.k. I know what you mean, but the C.E.C. requires 15 characters in the comment box. :-))

Thanks, Tom. I don't quite understand your comment, but I'm no genius.

Bassed on the picture, I had trouble comprehending how a child that young would say what is said in the beginning of the piece. It's just Tom being Tom. If you hang with me you'll understand.

Fathers are special...especially if they are part of ones life...
Being able to write about the special times with your father when he is gone is wonderful..
Very nice poem and image..

Hello Poet,
This is a wonderful poem for Father's Day or any day of the year
with a marvelous story of connection and passing on love of verse
from parent to child.
The rhythm of the poem flows smoothly through each stanza.
Easy to see why this would be your favorite poem.
Best wishes and good luck in the contest.
Robert

Such an endearing poem! Well done, I love that it's telling a whole story! I will say that first line with the rhyme between lad and dad kinda threw me in trying to figure the rhyme scheme, I don't even know if it was intentional or not, but the rest of the poem follows the couplet scheme great! Overall great job!

Thanks, Alina. That first line did not have an intentional internal rhyme. It just came out that way. I was wondering if readers might be looking for more of that in the rest of the poem.

What a wonderful poem about your relationship with your dad. You shared a special poem which has lived on in your memory and you now share with your child. Sorry that I have no more sixers to award. Best of luck in the contest! Evi

Thanks, Evi. Dad was only fifty-two when he passed. It was what made me come back home to be with him in his last days.

This Father's Day poem, The Owl and the Fox, is a neat verse that honors the connection from the father to the son to the next generation. Thanks to all the men who were such dads.

Thanks, Bill. Even when I got to be too big to climb on his knee, Dad would read to me from his beloved book.

-Nice artwork and presentation.
-You wrote a very good poem for Father's Day.
-I can see why this would be your favorite.
-I think your dad would be very pleased, too.
-You do a good job with effective imagery and rhyme,
showing how special it was when your dad read you this story.
-I can understand your feeling about wanting one more
time for him to be able to read it to you.
-I lost both of my parents in the late 80's and
sometimes those feelings of wanting more come back,
especially on a significant day, like Father's Day, etc.
-I am glad he passed on his love of reading to you,
and now you share the same poem with your son.
-A very special poem; good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Pam. I am sure that his readings were the main reason I started to write poetry.

You are welcome. It isn't surprising that that would be the case. He sounds like he was a wonderful influence. I had my mother to thank for my love of reading.
