Much information about your wildlife. It was interesting to read the facts. Like, "the quiz." I'll answer the question after reviewing. A clever idea to involve the reader in the story.

Ciao! You now have 14 votes!
I learnt a lot reading your essay.
I love wildlife but I must say Australia is truly full of dangerous , poisonous animals.
I think I would have a hard time living side by side with them , especially the spiders , snakes and crocodiles .
I like the part about the kangaroos ..but you could have cut it down somewhat and spared some words instead on the koala. It's so cute.
I read the Koala is having a tough time .. its natural habitat is being sacrificed for urban development.
They are so defenceless.
Also due to climate change causing huge bushfires , their many source of food is getting scarce ( eucalyptus leaves) .

Thank you very much for a lovely review! And for the vote. Greatly appreciated. And don?t worry. I haven?t forgotten the koala. He merits a piece in his own which will hopefully be posted in a few days! I hope you will read and enjoy it.

Deer are the main cause of car-wildlife accidents in Michigan. However, there are more incidents of black bears crossing the roads than there used to be. I think I prefer our safer wildlife here in Michigan. They might be a nuisance at times, but most of them won't harm or kill you if get near them. Yep, most definitely, I prefer our wildlife. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you very much for reviewing. Ours are okay if one does not provoke or harrass them, or encroach on their habitat (eg box jelly-fish). Nevertheless we are very safe, and many Australians have never seen any of this wildlife up close, apart from in a zoo!

I really enjoyed this. I love the story of the kangaroo visiting the maths lesson! I wonder if he took any equations back for his friends to solve! Out of curiosity, I just asked my Alexa what sound a kangaroo makes because I've never heard one.

I have never heard a kangaroo make any sound, so I looked it up too. This is what I found: "Kangaroo sounds can be categorized into five noises: growling, clicking, screeching, screaming, and barking. Like all animals, kangaroos talk for communication. Male kangaroos "cough" and growl at each other when they are fighting, while mother kangaroos make a series of clicking sounds akin to some monkey species noises."
Thank you so much for reviewing, and for being so interested. I appreciate you!

Excellent, Wendy! Being a Georgia boy from the American South, this article was very insightful and informative. Mathematics was never my subject in school by any stretch of the imagination, but I can only imagine class being interrupted by a kangaroo! Here in Georgia, it would be much the same as if a deer suddenly appeared in class and then ran through the school! I have always been fascinated with the long-legged creatures and have seen numerous videos of them on the golf course. Being a golfer, we see a lot of wildlife on the course, but I'd love to see a few roo hopping across the fairway! I only got one question right, the joey. But, I did Google the Australian Kangaroos question. That would be rugby! G'day! - J.

Hi Wendy,
You wouldn't catch me going swimming down there whether summer or winter. Too many Great White Sharks for me! No sir!
And snakes? I have a great fear of snakes! I'd be watching my feet all the time.
What I've seen of kangaroos, they are hostile bullies! I doubt that I'll venture to your country. Although, I would love to visit Mount John Observatory near Lake Tekapo in New Zealand. Now that's my style.
Have you ever heard of the famous UFO sighting over Westall School in Melbourne? 1966 was the year. That would be a great story to write about for Fanstorians, I'm thinking.

Nicely penned! Australia has many animals not found anyplace else in the world.
Hugs,

Thank you Kimbob! A great review, but you would be very safe here. While we are alert, it's a very safe country. Most people have never even seen a snake! Kangaroos are okay if you leave them alone - as is most of our wildlife. People are taught to swim between the flags, and lifesavers are on duty. Shark attacks happen, but are relatively rare. And we don't carry guns - that would scare me.
Thank you for the story suggestion - I have saved the link. I'm always on the lookout for new ideas!

For a fellow Aussie this was a fun read Wendy. I chuckled at the opening paragraphs when you said, no we won't talk about them, crocodiles, snake, jellyfish. The warnings about the kangaroos was well written, they are big strong animals, not just cute. Good luck in the contest.

People from other countries scare easily about our wildlife, but most of us know to be careful and have no problems. Better the wildlife than a gun culture. That would scare me!! Thanks so much for a wonderful review,Valda. I am glad you enjoyed it.

This is very interesting. You told us all about the dangers, although the one I remember best that I learned from a nature program is, of the 9 kinds of snakes you have, 7 are deadly poisonous. White tail deer here are the same as your kangaroos, using the highways as if they belonged there.

Thank you very much Carol. I didn't want to scare people too much. Lol. Even so most Aussies never see a venomous snake in their whole life. Our kangaroos are just looking for food to forage and tend to just want to cross over the highways, but like deer they tend to get dazzled by the headlights and stop in their tracks.

What a fun post. You make me want to visit Australia one day. I better add it to my bucket list.
I'm afraid I failed your quiz. I think a baby kangaroo is called a Joey, but I'm not sure. I'll have to look up the answers to the other questions for certain.
This was well written and fun to read. Wish I had a six. Good luck in the contest.

You got question 1 right. Well done. It?s a wonderful country but very vast. Despite telling you VC about the wildlife, it?s a very safe and good place to live, or visit! Thanks so much for reviewing. Always appreciated.

Hello Wendy,
What a great, informative piece. I learned quite a bit that I didn't know. I would love to come visit, but I'm afraid I probably wouldn't get off the plane. I hate spiders and snakes. I've had to deal with jellyfish the whole time I've spent in Alaska. We have a handful of different ones, but there is a red one that seems to be prolific, and is very painful. They get stuck in the fishing gear and inevitably end up somewhere on my face at least once a year. In the borough where I live, there have been around 242 moose struck by cars and killed. I don't doubt that many of the accidents could be avoided if people would pay more attention and slow down. Of course striking a thousand pound animal causes major damage to the cars. The meat doesn't go to waste though, as there is a group that harvests it for charitable use. Thanks for sharing this very entertaining post. I wish I could say that I'd stop by sometime, but probably not.
Have a blessed day. Stay vigilant gal!

Hi Tom, you would be very safe if you visited. Many Aussies have never seen poisonous spiders or venomous snakes ever. We are a really safe and good country to visit. I think you would love it. But it?s vast. Better visit for a six months or a year! Even then you wouldn?t see everything. Thank you so much for a wonderful review and for the gift of an exceptional rating. The six stars are shining beautifully, even though it?s a sunny day.

Hi Wendy,
That's good to know. I understand about vast areas, most people fail to grasp the scope of how big Alaska is. It's by far the largest state in the union and has several diverse areas in terms of terrain and weather. I really enjoyed your post gal. Keep up the good work.
Blessings
Tom
