"Superlative" is the only word I can think of to describe this poem. It clearly deserved its first-place finish, and I can't understand why it was not the #1 All Time Best for November. I would've loved to have been there to see the reaction of the WWII heroic, honorees when they heard you reading it. It was an honor for me to read it.

You are too kind, John. I didn't know it at the time, but there were veteran nurses at the ceremony. They all came up to me afterwards. It was a thrill to talk with them.

Thanks so much, Paul, for sharing this beautifully written story, nurses like Grace, were soldiers in a sense, as they were there to see the sad suffering of so many...Your poem with its perfect rhyming, and word usage, was a wonderful piece of writing...Grace deserved all the thanks we could give her, it could have been one of our family members that she held, and comforted...This was truly, a wining entry.
Warmly,
Victoria

Thanks, Victoria. When my father was dying of cancer in the VA hospital, Grace was one of his nurses.
You're very welcome, Paul, and I'm sorry for your loss..Hugs!

This is an engaging story and tribute to an angel here on earth. Grace sounds like a caring selfless person who went beyond the duties of a nurse. Your poem is beautifully written and I am glad you were able to present your expression of gratitude to her prior to her death. Best wishes in the contest.

Author, I have to ask you, where was Grace Glover from? You mentioned New England, and that she was in her 90s. I'm wondering if she could be a branch of my mother's family. That would be really something.
My mom's mother was a Glover, and my mother's middle name was Grace. Both names are family names and have been passed down. I'm reasonably certain that my grandmother had sisters... lord knows she had daughters! New Englander's all.
Loved this poem, I'm sure Grace did too.

Thanks for the review, Susan. She lived in Camden, Maine. I'm not sure if she was a native. She had two or three sons who also lived in the area.

This is so beautiful, even more so knowing that it was true. There were some incredible nurses and other angels who were there to comfort and hold the wounded and dying. Well done with this lovely poem, and good luck in the contest, you have an excellent chance of winning. Warm hugs. Sandra xxx

This is a very nice historical read. You have a wonderful grasp on the English language.
I think that combat nurses have been unsung heroes since this great nation's inception.
Nice work and thanks for sharing!

Aw, what a wonderful gesture you made there, donating this wonderfully written poem to Shew. I so enjoyed reading this and could well imagine the scenes you described. Ulla:)))

Thanks for the review, Tom. That had to be one of the toughest jobs in the war.
