This is well conceived, written, and realized.
I enjoyed the build up, as it peeked my curiosity and kept me engaged throughout.
The dialogue reads smoothly and naturally.
The ending was unexpected and enduring.

Kitty, thank you for the kind review. Terry.

Thanks for sharing this great poem! Poems should tell stories, in my opinion, and this beautiful poem genuinely moved me with a love story that could be describing my own wife!
So, once again, thank you for sharing :-)

A sentimental story told in warm tones. The flow is calming and easy. The images are clear. The dialogue is believable. It is nice that you put in a break line to let the reader know the scene shift. The reveal at the end was handled well.
Thanks for a good read.

Well, it is sixes all around lately. I love the tribute Zoe and thought of the garden at the wedding venue. Beautiful story, filled with well-defined characters and scenes. No corrections or suggestions from me for improvement -- it is an especially well-done post. ann

Ann, thank you for the six stars. It is posted as fiction, but a lot of it is nonfiction, as you have seen the garden at the venue. Thank you. Terry.

I wish I had six stars to give you for this wonderful story you have penned. You used great descriptive words, and I could relate to it so well because I love those type of flowers and butterflies too! Thank you for sharing! Teri

Hello Terry,
The Gift! It's a lovely piece of General Fiction having CAPTIVATING flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and beautifully depicting the truth of 'Butterfly's Garden.'
The last two lines cast a pleasant SURPRISE! Superb!!

Terry, you've outdone yourself this time. I was reading an everyday, common article about butterflies' and a man wanting to get his wife something special ... until i came to the very last sentence.
I don't want to brand myself, but the last sentence gave me chills and watered my eyes. The entire story unfolds in those few words. I don't even have to tell you what I think it means because you surely already know what you were doing. That "old fellow" gave the gift of a lifetime. and he is taking care of it for the rest of his lifetime.
I don't know if I have ever given you a six or not but this one yanked one right out of my heart. Besides not finding one single SPAG of any kind, the content drove straight home and made an everyday article a heartwarming story.
Exceptional, Terry, very well done.

Gary, thank you very much for the six stars! Your very kind review means a lot to me. I did post the story as fiction, but you should know a lot of the story is true. Thanks, Terry.

The Gift is a well-written story about a special gift a man gave to his wife in the form of 1,200 daffodils, which she never saw in this life. He left a statue of a cat playing with a butterfly and a small sign "MY BUTTERFLY'S GARDEN." People don't know the story behind it, and a couple asks a worker about it. He answers their questions as if he is a third party. We learn at the end that the worker was the builder of the garden, but he never told them. This "Not taking credit - staying anonymous" is a theme used in many Jewish folk stories.
