And yet it still goes on

War is what is happening or taking place right now. Russia has a bad man as a leader, and he is causing much destruction; several people are being killed. Thankful NATO is with us. And God is watching every minute of every day.

A very good piece on the results of war. We are seeing it first hand through all the television coverage that is available. There will always be someone who thinks conquest is best.

I absolutely agree wholeheartedly. War serves no lasting purpose and so-called peace gained does not last. Leaders make decisions but they aren't the soldiers who die. Well written. Powerful words. Best wishes for your entry.

Absolutely agree! Great way to say it as you cover wars historically and its devastating effects on humanity. I also liked that you end it with the song reference. Hope you do well in the contest!

I liked your story poem. War has been a constant in our history, but that doesn't make it right. Thank you for sharing this with the community Keep up the good work.

I think that England has spent its entire history on defending itself and always let go of those far reaching places once controlled by the British, except the Falklands of course. But you are right here, war has been very much part of life, a poignant write, food for thought, love Dolly x

This is very interesting. You have good rhymes and near rhymes. And your topic of choice is timely, if not inaccurate. I think you say as much in your author's notes when you briefly mention freedom, but for some reason do not add what you know to be true in the body of your poem. Also, your poem focuses only on European wars or peoples. All the others seem to given a pass by not being mentioned. But you call this: history.
Very interesting perspective.

Thank for your comments. Please re-read as the piece was missing the final two paragraphs which I wouldn't have discovered if a reviewer hadn't asked an edit to end it a question mark, which I actually did but the last two paragraphs for that reviewer weren't there. My recollection of history from the 50' and 60's spoke of Rome, Greece, Charlamagne and others. Alexander and Caesar conquered most of civilization. I never thought I wanted it any longer as the point remains, what is war good for?
-
I will. But, Alexander and Caesar Did Not conquer most of civilization. You are discounting entire continents of human civilizations all over the world. And war has freed and saved many from the oppression of evil.
Just saying. Things look different from afar.

This story poem, War: What is It Good For?, is well constructed with varied monorhymed quatrains. The message is clear that these societies will eventually fall as the rest did.

right on. and yet, I asked you to re-read it as two ending paragraphs were missing. If you do, I hope you'll still like it.

Excellent poem! I enjoyed the rhyme scheme. It tells a story, albeit a heartbreaking one. I agree with you, war today is unnecessary. Also, that's a beautiful picture. Good luck in the contest!

The extra paragraphs certainly add more depth. They make it that much better. Thank you for sharing.
