Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Hi Alie Just found this and glad I did and this is not ficticious as It is all to true. To work in hospice is a true calling snd I am sure all your patient's and their families had the best nurse with you in charge of their final days
Alie you are a good person and a terrific nurse and I agree with you, the family need to say goodbye and give permission for their loved one to go
I always believe that no one should die alone and have held many a hand in death
I suppose we chose our career in nursing because we care
A very well written piece
Cheers Chrisx

What a wonderful insight into an occupation that many would run away from. We forget how much people in pain or mourning need kind words and gentle spirits to guide them through a very difficult process. It must be very hard when people are expressing grief in less than admirable ways. You sound like a patient, understanding soul. Congratulations on your win.

I am one of those people that cannot handle that kind of Job, Alie. I'm strong but I'm weak. I cry easily, and the death of a loved one stays with me for a long time. I hate funerals, and hopefully, I will not go to mine. thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much Jose for reviewing and your amazing comments. Not everyone is cut out to be the one to sit with the dying. I am sure you are strong in other ways. It was great that you were honest about yourself. Blessings.

I worked palliative care with the elderly and children. I can understand your planning. Except we didn't visit the families homes. I think it is a blessing to sit with the dying. I will always remember a patient that was violent and had hate in his eyes. The day he let go and let god was great. I stood by his bed and told him, "Jesus is with me and He will take you home." Thanks for sharing this interesting story about your work in Hospice. Many don't know what it means until they need it. I've known people who have volunteered to spend time with they dying patient to give family a break from the stress. I admire you for taking on that nursing role.

A few spags: "check on how the family were(was). If they were alright then I (I'd) change them to next day."

"There is no magikal(magical) solution"

"I would inform the funeral home. Who were very respectful of the deceased." - should be all one sentence with a comma instead of a period.

"if ambulances were driving then so would the funeral divers(drivers)?" - I'm not quite clear about what you mean here.

Hello Alie.

We all think about the inevitability of death as well as circumstance.

The point that you make in your story is that the objective is to provide comfort not only for the patient but for the family as well. To me, that would be the most difficult part.

You tell the story well and I wish you the best of luck in the contest.

Robert

Powerful piece. This may be a winner. I am pleasantly surprised that this piece is open to review from non-members--most here don't allow it. Touching story--your dedication is made manifest!

This story is well-developed and falls comfortably within the 450-word limit. You describe what is always going to be a delicate balance for someone who works in hospice care and do so in a most believable way. In fact, had you not designated it as fiction, and had the contest not required a fictional story, I would have taken it as being fact. You get inside the mind of the principal character with great authenticity. Good luck in the contest.

Your writing on working in hospice care is well-detailed, informative, and
moving. I'm sure it is rewarding, challenging, and sometimes heartbreaking. You have done an excellent job fulfilling the prompt.
(last paragraph--divers for drivers. Also, bathing ??)
