Excellent entry for the ~ Jobs, People, & Spiritualism ~ writing prompt contest. It's a fine example of what the contest requires. Clear message of the importance of funeral skills and passion for the job at hand. I appreciate you were open to honor other religions.

Good luck in the contest.

I can understand how being an undertaker would be an amazing job, and what a good way to feel closer to God. The spirit of the deceased is still there for a while, or so I've been told, and to talk to the body is something many do. I spoke to my mother after she died, it's what people do. Your work not only prepares the body for cremation or burial, it also does a lot to help the grieving families, and is such a lovely way to send a person to meet God. It sounds a lot more interesting than most of us know. The detail you put into this is so real, I could easily believe that is what you did for a living. It's wonderful, Yvvone, and a fabulous contest entry which I can see as a winner. I wish you the very best of luck, too. Lots of love and hugs, dear SATP xxx

Hello Ivan.

You present an interesting perspective in this story. The last experience of the funeral often effects the people who are saying goodbye to their loved ones. I'm pretty sure I would be the wrong person for that job.

Your story is well written, and the narrative is complete in its description of the job duties as well as the feelings and ideas conveyed.

You are very welcome, Yvonne. This will be my last review. I am leaving. I haven't decided if I will make one last post.

Awwww, I hate that. Why are you leaving? I will miss you. Maybe you'll have second thoughts, huh?

    Yvonne.

Sometimes I get sloppy when I type. I see autocorrect changed your name to Ivan. I have no idea what I typed to get that. Bet you've never been called Ivan before. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh well. I must be half asleep.

I am ready to go. Most here do not want to read what I want to write.

Stick with the people who want to read what you write. There are enough to keep you happy. We're losing too many good writers and good people. My friend Jan is unsure what she's going to do. She had her feelings hurt very badly. I say don't let yourself be run off.

Never called Ivan, but I once had a friend who called me Evan. lol.

I have screenshots of all of the ad hominem attacks made directly to me. I find them quite amusing. One so called writer here called me a liar, deceiver, and no talent in two sentences. There was one spelling error. That writer received the recognized writer award shortly after those comments. HAHAHAHAHA

I had a run in with ?the committee? when I was unfairly disqualified from a dialogue only contest. It was pure dialogue between a dog and a man and was disqualified because I was told dialogue must be between two people. That is not true according to the OED. Dialogue can even be between humans and inanimate objects. They never responded to me when I told them that.

I understand. But I wish you'd stay. There are things we all don't like, but ignore or tolerate.

So this is fiction? The meaning of the job you describe can be challenging. You bring out the touch of knowing how the job exists. Sorry to be tardy. I have just been out of it.

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt with us. I enjoyed reading and can see why a very compassionate person would need to have this occupation. I can't imagine anybody else doing it.

I always wanted to hear about you doing this job so I'm grateful that you shared it. What a blessing you were to those families, preparing their loved one for their final goodbye in such a loving, and reverent way. Hope you do well in the contest!

You have done well describing the attributes of an undertaker Yvonne, and in particular in writing this story. I know I wouldn't be able to do that job, I've always said I could walk into a stranger's funeral and end up in tears, but I know, as you do, when you need them, they are just as you have described.

You did an excellent job with this entry, and best of luck in the contest. You state the reasons for being a funeral director so very clearly and indicate the satisfaction that comes with seeing a person sent off in the best possible way. I think that gives the family comfort. I like your point about the funeral director's work bringing a sense of connection with the deceased and God. judi

This is a wonderful entry for the contest, and I hope it does well. The person in the story is exactly the right sort of person for that job, with spirituality, compassion and respect, and the way you have described these would transfer to being of great comfort to the living relatives also. I would like some-one like that for me or my family. Best wishes.

Oh wow.
My dream job, no joking.
I ALWAYS wanted to work for a funeral
home, for the VERY reasons you mentioned. Now,
though, I'm happily retired, but oh, if I could have a do-over, ha ha.

I've never felt death to be and 'end', but
more the start of another journey.

I love your outlook, and this is a beautiful
essay!
Blessings...
