very well done sonnet like non-sonnet or something. I like how it captures the essense of the writing life and the old fashioned looking back as well. I hope i will be as active as you are in a few years just turned 66.

Jake, I look forward to reading your offerings as time allows you to expand your creative work space. I'm 72 next month and grateful each and everyday to be able to explore the workings of poetry-making.

Can there be any greater dismay than to realize after you have posted a work and started receiving reviews that this work is not only incomplete, but it is not nearly as good as you first thought it to be. Do you remove it and try to fix it? Do you edit on the fly? How do you respond to the negative comments as your reviewers question your choices? Indeed, one must exercise patience and discretion before posting their very next masterpiece.

Nomi, yes,so very well stated! It can be a painful expereince, but hopefully a really valueable one to just pause, sit with a work for a day and read it from the eyes of the receiver, again and again. Then polish it if needed.

I always share with my wife and get her honest sometimes brutal assessment before I post a work. If AI fail to do this, I almost always live to regret it.

Smiles - oh yes! our wives are our most honest critics...

JLR,
This poem is almost a sonnet. It has a mixture of syllable count and it reminds us that poetry is an art. Like all physical arts, you have to use its tools carefully. But, it can be ruined it you try to hard.
Keep writing and stay heatlhy

Well done. To me, it has always been the writer that survives the ages. You may have a few projects left by this person or that, but they never leave the important message as the writer.

Yes, and are we not so very fortunate to capture history of the human condition passed down over the mellinia?

Oh yes, oh yes...this is better than meets the eye. Superbly written with the art of poetry very much in focus.
Well chosen words superbly wielded like a lasso encircling all who read, if care to read with interest. A proper poem.
Well done...only wish I had more than five stars.
Have a good week my friend.
Best wishes.

We all writers can't overthink of what to write, like for example of a Star Wars Quote, Try, there is no try. Do, there is only do.' Excellent work! Thank you for sharing!

A very thoughtful and creative piece of poetry. Poetry is equally a creative art like the examples of sculpture and carving you mentioned in the work. I found the closing couplet more interesting. Don't force it, let the thoughts and feelings flow naturally. Well done, dear JLR.

-Very nice artwork and presentation, Jim.
-Thanks for the notes.
-I like your poem and some of the thoughts about writing.
-Effective imagery and rhyme.
-I like the opening verse that sets the tone and premise.
-The use of the sculptor as an example of creating art
is very good, and I like the first line of the following
stanza to prove your point.
-The message "be a lover of words" is a good one.
-A very good closing couplet, too.
-Well done!

Any poetry that recognizes the art that is involved in creating good written work is well worth reading, and this piece from you is excellent. It irks me somewhat when people scoff at the idea of a writer being an artist, and there are many who do, and who suggest that maybe I should get a real job. I do actually have a real job, but when people ask, I say I'm a writer because that takes up more of my time than the job. Thanks for your time, and for your excellent piece of art! :-)
