You've told an interesting story of wood crafting in this poem, JLR. I can see what's left of the intricately carved door in the picture. It caught my attention because my ex-husband was and still is a wood crafter, and he did work long hours. Well-written. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing about the "bodging" craft. I like how the picture got you to reflect on the art/craft of woodworking that was passed from generation to generation!

Trade learned eons ago
The Apprentice Wood Carver
JLR being a free verse poem, you did well telling us readers of a traditional woodturning craft, using green wood to make chair legs and other cylindrical parts of chairs.
Did you say that double-hand-carved doors
entered frequently by a family member of mine?

Your well thought out word choices pair nicely with the old wooden doors. I enjoyed reading about the job of apprentice. Your words are descriptive and create great imagery. Your poem has smooth flow, great details, and a strong message of a decent work ethic.
Respectfully, Jan

Great poem for the club entry. Very well-drafted. It gives a great history of the life of an apprentice and then you apply it as a legacy! Very well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your poem is well done, describing the apprentice to the wood carver, and the rules and regulations he had to follow for very little remuneration, except he was learning a great craft.

I think there's so many trades that are disappearing from the Earth at the moment, one can buy flat packs these days, and I'm nots sure hope they're manufactured, if we run out of tradesman and we suffer loss of failing energy sources, we may be in trouble, beautifully written Jim, a excellent post. Well done, blessings Roy
