What a delightful children's poem. I throughly enjoyed it myself and since I'm going to be a grandma for the first time, it would be a lovely sing song verse to read. Thanks for sharing. :)

Soooo good, and it goes back to that childhood playtime that we spoke of earlier. The imagination is such a wonderful thing. I LOVED your Villanelle and it flowed along so nicely, like the roll of the sea :)

"Sailing Away", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. Penned with craft and skill. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Children's imagination has no limits now with all the movies and t v shows to use as their inspiration. Enjoyed your seafaring Villanelle Yvonne, tale well told. Cheers

Thank you. Do children still play that way?

Hello Ivan.
Your Villanelle poem meets the style standard as I understand it. I think the poem will appeal to every little boy because every one of them probably wanted to be a pirate at one time or another during their childhood.
The only thing that ruined the pirate's voyage was hearing mother calling from the door. I'm sure all pirates dreaded that. HAHAHA

This really shows a child's imagination at work. I would warn the crew to take something besides bread and cheese to eat, to ward off scurvy. Great repeating lines. They make it seem so real for the boys, and they feel free to travel anywhere they please. I like that you got in that "and go were none have gone before." Of course reality in the form of Mom sets in. This is delightful. judi

This is adorable! You should have entered it in a contest, IMHO -- I think it would win hands down. The Villanelle isn't the easiest of forms in the first place, and you've told a story with yours that's so charming -- that last stanza has me picturing the whole thing! Wonderful flow and choice of repeating lines, Yvonne.

You always do so well with these repeating forms, Yvonne! Of course, I could guess that it was young boys with their great imaginations sailing the seas. How fun! Wish today's young ones could imagine like that.

I don't think they "play like" that anymore. What a shame. Thanks, Helen.

Your villanelle is exceptional in every respect--skillfully and creatively composed and delightfully expressive, conveying a powerful message
about adventurous aspirations and the blessing of imagination.

This reminded me of Star Track "go where none have gone before." LoL good line.
The rhymes do not seem forced. Your poem flows well. It draws on emotions and it presents strong images.
