Thank you so much, Marilyn, for your extra special six star review and kind words. I'm glad you liked it and were hopefully entertained a bit. I appreciate YOU! and your going back to read an old story. But from now on save your sixes for people's new stuff. Not that I don't greatly appreciate it, but you get so few, you need to guard them with your life. :-)

I do guard them with my life and they go to who deserves them. and besides...you can't tell me what to do

Good story on how stories spread. Never really had that happen much to me. Since you brought this up, I am going to write about that time. Thank you for putting the idea in my head. You are a nice man. You always pick my spirits up. You are one of the most gifted writers on here. I don't hang out with slugs sweetie pie. Is your hair auburn or brown? Karen

Thanks, Karen. Stories certainly spread faster butter in a skillet. Glad I could bring a story to mind. I have a friend who gets all his story ideas on what happened the day before or what's in the newspaper. And come to think of it, who could write that many stories. LOL. Thank you for your kind words. There is nothing that pleases me more in life than for someone to think I'm a nice person. I mean, what else really matters in the long run? Like you, I like nice people. And you seem to be a sweetheart. There are plenty of talented writers on this site and you certainly fit right in. Keep slinging that ink. Oh, and my hair was so black it looked blue when I was young, as my mother would say. But as I got older, it lightened up to a dark brown. Of course now, there's tons of grey if I'd let it show up. I'm assuming Cherry tells me you're a redhead or strawberry blonde, if there truly is such a color? :-) Ric

I was born with Auburn hair that got red streaks in the summer. When I took cosmetology in high school
we all had to either have our hair colored, streaked, permanented or frosted at least that is what I told my mother. So I picked bright red hair like Carol Burnett. And my hair stayed red up until my pain got bad. I always did my own hair. And I quit driving. And I had no disposable income at all. So, my hair got very long, and is dark brown it's natural color. Yuck. I always kept my hair short. I called it wash and wear hair. When I get my all-in-one printer I will send you a picture Of what I once looked like. Are you an avid reader? If you are we could trade books. I am trying get folks to trade with because shipping a box of books is way cheaper than buying a box of books. I get books in bulk from ebay, but except for category, you never know what you were gonna get. My sister in law takes me to the "Deseret" thrift store once a month where I buy 2 dozen or so books. I am a voracious reader. LMT

I read two to three books a week besides what I read on Kindle unlimited and on this site. It doesn't leave much time for anything else. The Kindle unlimited has saved me a fortune. I used to take two big legal boxes of books to the Library every couple of months. But these days, I'm buying less and less. Even used books like at Thriftbooks, Abe's, and all those other places has gotten more expensive. And what was once free shipping, now the shipping costs more than the books. I used to sell a few things on Ebay, but the same little boxes that used to cost me around $3, now costs $12. I can't understand how the prices could have jumped so much. I think Kindle Unlimited cost me about $10 a month, so even though I'd rather have the books, I leaning more towards that route. You should give it a try. The Kindle White is my favorite reader and it's one of the cheaper models. Not saying it's cheap, but you can buy one for $100 or so, and lots of people sell them cheaper when a new model comes out. :-)

Reading the screen gives me a headache, and I have been reading paperbacks since I was very little. I like holding a book.Karen
-
I like holding a book too, so using a screen was a hard adjustment. But the Kindle White that I'm telling you about doesn't hurt your eyes as much, and you can get those blue light reading glasses or lens to stop the headaches. Plust it gives you a variable lighted screen, you can change the font size, and soften the page color and text. It's worth thinking about. :-)
-
So, you were a cosmetologist? I am too. I owned salons and taught classes around the country for some of the major companies in the world. And to answer your next question, yes, I didn't that along with the horses and everything else. :-)
-
It sure would cut down on the book stacks. How about the cost? I can read one a day, I read fast.? Karen

This is so incredibly weird that we have so very much in common. Star trek or Star wars? Tell me the top fiveseries you have watched in the last 3 years.Me: Blacklist, (Netflix)Bridgerton,(NETFLIX)Midsummer Murders,(ACORN) Brokenwood (ACORN)mysteries, Death in Paradise(BRITBOX)
-
Black list is one of my favorite shows and has been for a while. But honestly, until recently, Black List is about all I watched regularly. I've never heard of Midsummer Murders, Brokenwood, or Death in Paradise. Lately, I have watched Saving Grace, Justified, Justified: City Primeval, Lincoln Lawyer, Blind Spot, Old Man, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and a few others. But for the most part, I'd rather just read than watch tv. Are Acorn and Britbox pay stations? And how much are they? I'd probably take your recommendation just because our minds seen to run in the same channels. I liked Star Trek and Star Wars in my younger days. But living just up the road William Shatner turned me against watching anything that nasty human was involved in. The local airport even told him that if he couldn't be nicer he could start using another airport. He's a jerk!

I can't imagine shipping prices being any different there than they are here, but it would cost $8 or $10 to send a single book from here. I went to the post office to mail a box to someone in next and they wanted $46. Of course, I'd already promised it, so I had to pat. I woman around here started a book club in her garage, then a room in her house. It was like a book exchange. For every book someone brought, they could take one. Then she told everyone she would take all donations or books they wanted to get rid of. Now, she has a warehouse full of books and give them away to kids. She has made it a corporation and even draws a salary off from it. Plus, she's doing a good deed for all. :-)

The thing I like best about this story is how authentic it is - just another day in the life . . .
You speak candidly and with humor, and your writing is down to earth. Sometimes the best stories are the simplest stories.
One question: did you go right back out for the milk, bread, and eggs?

Thank you so much, Pam, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. Stories like this are the easiest to write, since most of it is a step by step replay of the actual day written as fiction. Except, I didn't forget the milk, bread, or eggs. LOL. I'm a little more efficient than I lead people to believe. Bumbling idiots are allowed to get by with more. I appreciate you going back to read these older stories that offer nothing in return, but most of all, I appreciate YOU!

Grocery shopping, not one of my favorite activities.
That was "neighborly" of him to have you restart his lawn mower on such a hot day.
Lazy is one word for him, but perhaps he just took advantage of a kind heart's gullibility.
Don't you just like people you can not stand who put on false fronts?
You always buy much more than you intended when you go grocery shopping. Does not take long for the bill to run sky high either.
Bill calling her a prostitute, just stirring up trouble unnecessarily.
"trick" probably not the best word there especially when neighbors are as nosy as the two of them.
"Bumping uglies" is a term have not heard in a while.
Don't you hate it when you go for something specifically and forget to get it?
A fun piece packed full of realistic situations.

Thank you so much, Brett Matthew, for your extra special six-star review and kind words. It's always special when a talented writer whom I look forward to reading regularly takes time to read my foolishness, but even more so since you've gone back to read a story that offers no reward. There is more truth in this piece than I care to admit, so I changed just enough to call it fiction. LOL. Thanks for your continued encouragement. I appreciate YOU!

Thank you so much, Carlos girl, for your kind words and generous review. Yes, I truly do wish they would create a vaccine to stop gossipers. LOL. In life it always to be one thing or another, but good for you, abuse and harassments can be stopped if we are willing to fight back and not take it. Wishing you the best of luck! And appreciate the review.

Yep..its pretty crazy when people gossip about " your new gal". So so nosy and intrusive. I personally wear blonde or red wigs to come and go undetected lol. Hilarious, isnt it.?

Weaving through this cautionary tale is the effect our surroundings have on our psyche. Irecently read that very little of what we thinkor feel is ours. It is absorbed from our surroundings and the people around us. Look at how he changed being near the cheerful greeter but how quickly when he realized the negative energy had followed him. This is a powerful account.

Thank you so much, Liz, for taking time to read my story. Your kind words and generous review are greatly appreciated. I have always agreed with the concept that our psyche is influenced by our surroundings, environments, and the people around us. I've always expressed it as creatures of our environments. We all like to think of ourselves as unique and original, but truly, no one is. I'm glad you picked up on the jest of the story, and not just my playful silliness. Much appreciated!

Thank you so much, Richard, for your kind words and generous review. There is more truth in this story than I care to admit. No, I didn't forget all three items, just the eggs. LOL. And I did get my digs in about gossipers and vaccines. I don't care much about contests, but it's always nice when a talented writer like you spends his time reading one of my stories. I can't say I enjoyed your story, but I can say it was superbly written and the longer I read the more I thought about all the people who faced the similar torture of not knowing, during and after the war. Best of luck to you in the contest!!! But never worry about popularity contest results, your story is a definite WINNER either way! I look forward to reading more of your work.

Lol! Doesn't it always work out that way? -- I mean the missing the very items you went shopping for, not the unfair rumor-mill started by the neighbor with the overactive imagination jealousy. Great points about human nature and about the Covid situation all told with entertaining humor. Hope you do well in the contest, Ric!!

I thank you so much, Helen, for taking time to read my story. I appreciate your kind words and generous review. There is more truth in this story than I care to admit. But no, I didn't forget all three items, just the eggs. LOL. I'm glad you picked up on my points about vaccinations and the gossipers. Even I have to add a little something serious to my farce stories. I don't care much about the contest, but I'm always happy when I can get a smile out of such a talented writer and nice person like you! Best of luck in the contest!

Totally hilarious and so relatable for anyone who has to deal with the gossip which today is known as "alternative facts". You take this simple trip to the store for particular items and return with everything but those things. Quite a gauntlet.

So true so very true. Go to the shop for bread and come home with half the shopping center. Also, true, the gossiping lonely ones waiting to grab the unwary. This had a ribbon of reality that was very close to home. Well done. Mabaker12
