Such a grim message in this poem, and wise folks will pay heed - my only question would be which came first - the addiction or the depression? I'd vote pain/depression is what caused the addiction - an attempt to alleviate the pain...
Well done, poet - too sad...and horrible. Best of luck in the contest. (Fabulous art, too, btw.)

Thanks so much, Dawn, and I would tend to agree with you there. I'd say the onset of severe depression brought on the addictions as well.
I certainly am grateful for your very encouraging review.

You're more than welcome, friend.

These kinds of poems always intrigue me -- in regards to subject matter. It's a look inside one of man's darkest battles. You portrayed that very well. No nits.

a grave loss (pun intended) but sincerely meant. well written, powerful indictment -- i like 'i knew better, why must i go?' no answers, will overcomes will power.

Robin Williams brought so much laugher and joy to so many folk throughout the world, I'm afraid I don't understand suicide, surely things aren't that bad! Articulately written, well expressed I liked it, in quatrains, great aabb rhyming, even meter, blessings, Roy.

Thank you, Roy, and neither do I, although I have been close to it myself once. But, that's when God stepped in on my behalf and intervened. That's the day I gave my life to Christ and have never looked back.
I'm truly very grateful for your review and comments.

You've really got something to live for, and He's got work for you! Bless you, Roy.

Bless you too, my friend. :}

Depression and addiction are such serious problems and usually go together. He was such a talented man, but as we were laughing, he was crying inside. Best wishes in the contest, my friend~Debbie

Beautifully penned, capturing what the contest asked for, yet you have achieved more. I hope you'll do well in the contest. I have enjoyed it.

Thank you, Artist Dilemma. Now if only more voters felt as you did, perhaps I would be doing okay. Sadly, it is not doing all that well. But, there's still time, and where there's time, there is hope.
Thanks so much again!

Nice that you dedicated it to Robin Williams. The scary picture complements your poem ever so well. It is for sure scary. Best wishes for the prompt.

Beautiful is the sirens song. Beautiful but scary in that the Angel of Death that is Heroin so easily grasps her prey. You have expertly captured the lure of heroin. It is only by the grace of God that my ship did not end up on the rocks. Great work. Great anti-drug message.
