Very well put ... a notion that I whole heartedly subscribe to. My wife is a firm believer in that belief. Thanks to her, I'm a far better man. As always, Dean. Very well written and expressed.

Dear Dean,
I loved this one, it has such a powerful truth running through it. My family learned this lesson fairly early in their lives.

The kids are teenagers and still this holds true in our Christmas - and they are always the best holidays ever.

This is a delight to read, a powerful wisdom I hope ripples through FS and beyond.
Excellent post my friend.
Thanks for sharing,
Maureen

Thanks, Maureen, It's been received pretty well, got one four star review so far, and lots of fives. Not my usual fare, as far as stories go, but something I wanted to put "out there."

Hi, Dean.

From Arthur's broad dying grin, I wonder if he expired whilst having sex. :-)

Seriously, an excellent message here, in both the story and your notes, and very well written.

Cheers, Ted

This would be a good message to many....

and you are right, Dean - many of us
are rich - myself included - wrapped in
love by a wonderful husband and fine
family, all of whom I love and am proud of.

In our village, we all take turns to pop in on those who are alone, to do some little job they're unable to do themselves, or just to sit, listen and keep them company. We also invite those who are alone to share a family meal with us from time to time, not just in the holiday season.

Thanks, Margaret, and you are absolutely right. We should extend such courtesies year around.

I volunteer at a few nursing homes in my area, as an "Adopted Son". Just me & my Chihuahua, Gidget. We visit people who are neglected by friends and their families, and it is such a blessing to share their time with them.

Thank you for the fantastic review, and for your insights as well!

This piece of a story promises a good read. The story has just begun with a simple narrative style. How it unfolds further would decide the story as good or great. I hope it grows further touching heart to the core.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

A parable, by it's purest definition, is as follows...

    par.a.ble
    [par-uh-buhl]

    noun
    1. a short allegorical story designed to illustrate or teach some truth, religious principle, or moral lesson.

    2. a statement or comment that conveys a meaning indirectly by the use of comparison, analogy, or the like.

Therefore, it is as it stands...

Dean, buddy, you hit the nail on the head here. I've always told my girlfriend, it's not about what you have, it's who you know. The reason we've struggled in Quebec as much as we have compared to back home in the Sault is exactly for that reason, there's no social web to catch our flies in. Excellent work on this write, I really enjoyed the parabole. Maybe I'll read it to the wife lol. Great work, thanks for sharing.

That is so true. Wealth is not measured by the size of your bank account but by the size of your heart. Opening up to family and friends year round and not just during the holidays is a good practice to follow. Thanks so much for this wonderful little story. If more people followed that advice we would live in a better world.

Very lovely parable indeed. I so enjoyed reading it. Your story of course is a metaphor for what defines real wealth, which is certainly not the money we accumulate or the possessions we own. Thank you for sharing this.
