Unfortunately depression is something that reminds us all of our humanity. Nicely captured, well presented, good work. I hope you haven't had too much experience. Have a great day and good luck with the contest.

I have often battled with feelings of depression but I often think to myself that there must be a reason as to the way I am feeling and that it will become clearer to me in later life as to what that is. A cleverly constructed piece of writing, I read your words with ease and I couldn't find any errors. Good luck in the contest...Jacob

This is a most worthy poem for this contest, IMO - the rhyme is great, but even more, the message is one that people often do not realize about depression. This goes a long way towards raising awareness, so kudos! Good luck in the contest.

Very good description of depression and the agony one goes through in order to find some relief. The Lord is always a good place to start. Well-done!
Good luck in the contest!

Depression is a disease just like any other, and we can't ignore it. I think it's sometimes inherited. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Very thought provoking. Les

Emotions can over take us at any time in our life. It is best to fight them than to give into them. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

I happen to be one of these people of which you wrote about concerning depression, Anonymous Poet. Having been clinically diagnosed as manic depressive in 1998, I could completely relate to all you've expressed so well here.

Having faith in God -- staying in His Word via a strict weekly Bible reading and study time -- has helped me to cope with the disease. Yes, depression is indeed a disease. It can be just as debilitating in many ways as physical afflictions are sometimes. One cannot express adequately the overwhelming feelings of loneliness, loss and sorrow it brings about. However, writing about the things that trouble us most can certainly help us to deal with it. It is precisely why I write the things I do.

Excellent rhyming and cadence throughout, on a very relevant topic.

Best of luck to you in the Feelings Prompt.

Thank you Deano for your wonderful informative review, I really appreciate it. So sorry to hear that you suffer from this dreadful disease. I began my fight with depression in 1992, on the day I was diagnosed with a non-curable, life threatening disease. You're absolutely right about keeping a strong faith. I talk to God many times on a daily basis. Thanks again my friend and may God be with you and your family. Take care of yourself and keep writing.

You're very welcome, and I promise to do my best to keep it up. It may be dark, creepy, eerie and spooky. But, it comes with the territory, heh-heh.

All my best to you & yours. :)

I remember telling you in my review of your first poem posted on this site, that you had a real bright future here. Man, I sure got that right. I've been writing for years on many different sites and in my opinion, you're simply the best at what you do. No one, and I mean "NO ONE" even comes close to you. You truly have a God given talent my friend. Take care.

Thank you. That's very kind of you to say, and I appreciate the fact that you feel that way.

    You take of yourself care too. ~Dean :}

strong rhyming couplets
actually, it is not a sickness we all go through - everyone experiences time of disappointment, failure, grief, sorrow,
but only SOME people have a mental illness called depression, which is why I hate that the same word is used for both suffering from the disease of depression and for suffering temporary sorrow caused by a life event - my sister suffered clinical depression for many decades, and people would wonder why she just couldn't get her act together and get over it because they were thinking she had the "other" kind of depression
good alliteration in feel like a fugitive and curl up in a corner
good simile too

Thanks Brooke for your thoughts on this life changing disease. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I've been fighting bouts of depression since I was diagnosed with a life threatening disease several years ago. It can really pull you down and make you feel like your life is completely useless, even cause suicidal thoughts. Take care my friend.

My sister's first hospitalization was in 1959 when I was only 8 and she was a brand new mom. She died less than two weeks ago after suffering from this severe mental illness for well over 50 years. She died of physical diseases, but her life of suffering was due to the depression.

So sorry for your loss Brooke. I believe, and I know you do also, that she's in a much better place now. A place where there is no pain or suffering. I also believe with all my heart, that we will reunite with those already in Paradise. Just think Brooke, we're going to Paradise when it's our time. Take care my friend.

Thank you :-) Our mother died ten days before her first child was born, so yes, I believe she is not with our mother, all these years after waiting to feel her embrace once more :-)

Hello there,

You have very depicted what a particular type of depression can be like. Of course, not everyone has that urge to cry. Some cannot. Some have no feelings towards anything at all - like a state of limbo.

The denouement in the last section is a nice personal touch and while that may give solace to a small few, I don't think it is fundamental to the treatment for depression.

This is a very well written piece, that captures a mood and feeling very well and deserves to do well in the competition on those grounds.
