The history of witches is an extensive one Dean. Your write does them justice for sure. Your picture is large and disorienting. LOL. Awesome done with the whole package.

Thank you Gungalo. I really worked to get this one in, just in time for Halloween. This one posed more of a challenge, composition wise, than many of the other 'pictapoems'. I'm very pleased to know that you liked it!

It was awesome Dean but I have to tell ya it is huge.

I found the author's notes to be very interesting, Dean.

A lot of what you say makes perfect sense, and even in our bible, reference is made to magicians and witches--take for example the magicians in pharaoh's court, who placed their staffs on the floor and they turned into snakes, but Moses' snake gobbled them all up.

Then there is a witch in the New Testament, who follows the apostles and screams at them, revealing that they are followers of Christ.

With the advent of the four major religions, as you have stated, worship of the twelve gods ceased in Rome, Greece and the rest of the world of antiquity, especially when Constantine the Great embraced Christianity. Eventually, all pagan worship was set aside and finally anathematised.

Now, the poem, a pictapoem! And an excellent one at that, deserving of no less praise than a six.

Hey, thanks a million, Alex! In 2 Daniel, King Nebucaneezer asked his various magicians, mystics and sorcerers to try and decipher his dreams for him, but David ended up giving him the best interpretation which earned David his freedom. Remember that story?

Thanks for the detailed review, my friend. It's sincerely appreciated!

Yeeeeees, now you mention it...I do remember that story.

There are definitely witches and witchcraft and it behooves all of us to stay as far away as possible from it. This poem we actually survived better than most. You've got this style down to an art. God loves you and we do too.

Thanks, Evelyn. I truly appreciate that!

Yes, this one is more about having fun than anything else. I'm glad it came across that way.

    Thanks again!

I have to give you a six, because your poem is written wonderfully, and there is not one word I would change.
Your author's notes are just as worthy of a six. (Sorry, you only get one) lol
The notes are very informative and well-written also.
Loved the poem, the howling winds, the artwork, everything. :) Sandra

Hi Dean,

I loved the deeper level to this Halloween treat. Being an open minded, intelligent person - not to mention modest, lol - I knew a lot about the history of witches. Really enjoyed your notes. I met a couple witches in Houston and my sense was that they 'worship' nature, basically having pragmatic ideals which have nothing to do with God or the Devil.

Hugs,
Lou

dean,
i have to give you my last sixer because you tell the truth about witches. most people are clueless. most of my witch friends weren't wiccans BUT it was easier to say they were because it was to diffiult to explain to those who were clueless. nicely done piece. easy to read and follow. imagery is excellent. hope you're having a great day.
love,
barbara

Thanks so much for such an encouraging review, Barbara. You're right, witches get a bad rap, I think. That's why I created the author's notes for this.

Thanks so much again, I truly appreciate it!

They do get a bad rap but then there is a certain religion that gives any religion not theirs a bad rap. People have choices. I don't think there is a right or wrong way unless it is hurting others.

The witch in your photo- can you send her to my door? Now that that is over, thank you for this poem. I have run in to folks who think halloween is evil to which I say, lighten up. Everyone likes a good scare and there is nothing wrong with laughing at our fears, celebrating them, de-mystifying them. Many women burned at the stake as witches were only midwives practicing folk remedies. We need to blow of steam, poke holes in paranoia and laugh at our fears.

Do witches truly exist?
The simple answer is, yes...

Hi Dean, was waiting for you on that occasion, but you came out with a normal picture, not bad, and you amazing poem, describing gently the history of this event. Beautiful as usual. Hugs Terry

Thank you for the amazing comments, they were very helpful and interesting. xx

Thanks so much, Terry. I truly appreciate it. I always feel the notes are nearly as important as the poem or prose. I know when I read those of others, it certainly helps me out, at times.

I am sincerely grateful for your wonderful review!

Hi Dean,
I really enjoyed your poem, well-written and so fitting for this time of the year. Your note at the bottom is very interesting. I had always thought of Wiccans to be more of a cult following throughout history. The practice of honouring Earth, nature and spirituality. Thanks for this clarification.
Bye
Rosalyne :)
