Like you, I loved Dr. Seuss. As children, my sisters and I would go to the library and look for his books. When I became a teacher, I read his books to the children. On his birthday, the school served green eggs and ham for lunch.
I enjoyed your poem, as you included information not generally known by the public, like the origin of the word "Nerd." Your Merry-Go-Rhyme was the perfect poetic style to get in all the information you included. Your poem is rhythmic and fun to read. (So now I know where Spam comes from).

Thank you for sharing this Dr. Seus tribute with us. I am, also a Dr. Seus fan. My youngest son swears the two best authors ever are Dr. Seus and Shakespear. I see them as very different, but he does not. I enjoyed reading.

I live across the river from Springfield and have been to the Seuss Museum more than fifty times throughout the years--taking photos of each of my grandchildren as they stood next to the amazing sculptures of this staple of my childhood and theirs.
We live in a cancel culture where we judge the motives of an author by today's standards -- so some of his beloved titles have been removed--and more will likely be "pushed" off the market.
What a shame, in the name of "diversity" to criticize this man who lived in a different time, and wrote influenced by the society he lived in.
(I feel the same way about Disney Movies being banned or "remade" to be more politically correct.")
Snow White and the WHAT? Oh... "Mystical creatures!" (Six full frown adults of multiple ethnicities and one "little person"--)
(How this is even allowed to be changed when the Brothers Grimm published the original version is beyond me!)
Ooops/
Time to fall off my soap box. I recently purchased a new complete (as complete as is allowed in 2024) set of Dr. Suess's books--
I love his stories, his rhymes, and his creativity.
I'm so glad you honored him with this informative and entertaining poem!

Hey Sweetie, I just got done adding two videos that tell more about him. But I think you know most of it with all your trips there.
Read my reviews and you will hear two others talk about getting off their soapbox and I beg them to stay on. That is why I put that part in where I say, are we getting too touchy. Of course the poet has to stay somewhat diplomatic. But all the voicestrousities (I am talking Dr Seuss there) are all women. I love it that the women are speaking up and not liking that Dr Seuss should ever get shut up.
I have gone thru all my kids, my grandkids, teaching and never succeeding at growing up myself, all with the help of Dr S, so when I say that I am a groupie, I mean it.
I pm'd Debbie D a while back and told her that I plan on doing this, as I know this is her specialty, but I would do it in my style. I never did hear back from her but wanted her to know I wasn't getting into her area, but Dr Seuss meant a lot to me to do.
So I know it is strange, but thank you so much for the awesome info about your location and all the times you've been there. When I get better and come out to show off my dad's ship in Boston, maybe we will meet and you can take me there too. Big Smile!!!
Thanks also for the lovely comments and the six seuss stars! They are sixsteussional!! Lotsa Love, Debi

I love Dr. Seuss as well. Mulberry Street is my favorite. I enjoyed your tribute to the writer. He was original and a master of getting children (both young and old) to use their imaginations. Wonderful post. Gretchen

Thank you for the Dr. Seuss tribute. I loved his backs then and now. Cat in the Hat is my favorite because I star in it:
I sat there with Sally.
We sat there, we two.
And I said, "How I wish
we had something to do!"
And I memorized One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish I read it so many times.
Sad to me, the talented Dr. Seuss wrote these innocently and in fun. Cancel Culture needs to cancel themselves and leave the doctor of rhyming poetry alone. Hitler burned books. There, you have it. Do these folks realize how ridiculous they've become? Probably not.
Wonderfully written and illustrated for those who will nevu forget our first Dr. Seuss book. Thank you, my friend. You have great taste. Sending you my best today as always and love and blessings across the miles.

Hey Sally, thanks for the incredible review and very kind words for my Dr Seuss poem. Read the reviews, as the women are really voicing opinions on the stupidity of the politically correct! I love it and so proud of all my women friends here.
I appreciate your fun info very much, my dear friend. Thanks also for the lovely comments and the six seuss stars! They are sixsteussional!!

Yes, I am a self proclaimed lifetime Dr Seuss groupie!! And so happy you are too. Love, Debi

Most welcome, my friend. Dr. Seuss fans forever! Love ya,

I am a huge fan of Dr. Seuss. I'm so happy you did a tribute to him and his writings. Such a shame that political correctness has impacted his books.
Just a suggestion for something that would sound more poem-y. :-)
"Massachusetts is from where my hero came" (whence)
I really enjoyed your tribute. Julie.

Oh Julie, you are so right. That is why I added that part in about being too touchy, as to point out what is wrong when we have to start picking on the man who brought so much laughter to children, and yeah us big kids too!!! But yet as the writer of the poem, I have to be more diplomatic. So I love that you and a few other women are voicing opinions. Yeah, women, I am proud of you girls.
My gosh, I entertained with all my grandkids doing this type of poetry as they sat on my lap or on the couch with me as they got older. I always told them that someday if I grow up I want to be just like them, but decided a long time ago not to grow up. LOL. Maybe that is why I am a Seuss groupie.
Thanks for the awesome comments, Julie. You are the best! And by the way I used your suggestion, so thank you very much, dear friend. Love, Debi

We've taken this Politically Correct crap way too far. Books innocently written, and read by people with their own agenda, then judged by their own thoughts. Who is really reaching for the absurd in all this? Not the writer, not the children, just those crackpots who say they want free speech but go out of their way to be offended, and demand we fall in line with their looney ideas. Do you think you hit a nerve? I'm jumping off my soapbox now!

Oh Sweetie Pie, you stay on that soapbox and keep on going!!
That is why I even put that in there was to ask that question, are we just too touchy and show that we see things differently. Now I had to be diplomatic because I wrote the poem, so had to use some poise in doing so. However, you girl, just said everything I was trying to say, but said it in the tone I would have liked to say it in. LOL... Have I confused you yet?
You and I seem to think so much alike that together we could be dangerous! Haha! Don't you ever stop speaking your mind in my little forum here, because you help me to realize that maybe I am more normal than I think. LOL. What I was going to write also were a few of Dr Seuss's adult quotes and I love, "Don't believe everything you think." Of course that is not meant for us. But maybe those who just need to be complaining about something at all times. Thanks Jeano, you are the best!! Debi

You're very welcome. It's the people who go out of their way to find something to complain about that irk me the most.

He is my favorite children's author, Debi, and I can feel the passion in this piece, which makes me believe you are as well. He was loved by many, and your piece shed new light and humanized his life.
Well done! Best, JohnC
