This is a touching story about
your father. It's been said for
years that the universal
language is music and songs.
My late husband died
unexpectedly on Feb 11, 2020. We miss him very much. My very best wishes
for the contest, your poem
is a strong contender.
Blessings ~

This was interesting but I didn't understand why you talked about his name, the dragon when it has nothing to do with the song that was special to his heart. The old Eddie Fisher sang a song and you gave us some of the lyrics but you didn't give us enough information on the song so that we could look it up and understand more fully why that song made him cry and miss his wife/mother.
I was confused as to whether he missed his wife or his mother. Thanks for sharing yet I was left with more questions than answers.

Thank you jesse for the review. Note that I said my mother, which would make her his wife. Note that it was the chorus that deepened his depression and, lastly to give a full picture of a lonely man whose social life consisted of a bar and a chair. His nickname as a dragon completely was misplaced giving his personality that I wanted to contrast. You know I just thought of the ending of "Puff the Magic Dragon" where in longing that dragon retreated in tears from life.

This is a heartfelt write and I loved that your Dad's favourite chair where only he and the dog were allowed to sit! So many men at this time and even now love their sport and drinking in the local pub, it is a lifestyle so many men enjoy. Your compassion for your Dad and his broken hearted grief is considerate and loving and your words are from your heart, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This is a story that hits home. The songs more so than anything. For some it may be a movie or movies, for others a song or songs. Hearts endear themselves to memories of love. This was a nice story. Thank you. It made me think of my dad. Al Jolson and 'If I only Had a Match'.

I liked reading this account very much. It seemed very much true-to-life. I recognized the references to Archie Bunker and the vintage songs also. They say songs and the ability to recognize favorite melodies outlasts even the last stages of dementia, not that the father had that. It looks like "My Heart Cries for You" was recorded by various singers. I would put "Tennessee Waltz" and "Stardust" in quotation marks, as they are song titles. Thank you for sharing. Good luck in that contest.
