Excellent, realistic-sounding dialogue
You get inside the narrator's inner thoughts well
Loyalty, a most honorable thing, and enduring love, a lovely thing
I have never been in this situation and cannot imagine the conflict - guilt at thinking one should have a chance at grown up life with a lover who can give me children, or this kind of life where the lover has become the child - that sure is a decision only that person can make, and how to do it? You make it clear how difficult that is.
A moving story, quite thought-provoking. Brooke :-)

this is a lovely story and I suspect you have captured the new Lane very well. I have a sibling whose damage from an accident was similar, and it can be sad watching her trying to move, and remembering her grace before. She's not so much a child; it might be easier if she was, as she's aware now of being disabled, unable to count money or read well. With more rehab she might get better, but never again really herself. Her mate was killed in the accident. I wonder if he would have been as faithful as you.

So much a test of real love. Just too easy to pass off the hardship of loving care-giving to a paid person and/or place with nothing more than a guilt visit. Your words flowed with the reality check of owning up to commitment to a person. Hearts of gold depicted in your piece, not only the wife but the husband, till death do they part. Could almost picture the couple just by mentioning the detail of the sweater.Bravo.
