This poem is absolutely lovely, profound and full of such heartache. The only thing I would suggest is that the narrator be revealed as a man earlier than the fifth stanza. Thank you for sharing this. While it is so sad to know it came from a horrible loss, it is also very clearly from your heart.

WOW!! How beautiful! I would not change a thing in this poem. Your rhyming is perfection. Very insightful into the world of the aging old. I wonder, is this someone you know? If so I am sad for them. Great job! Congrats!

First of all congratulations on broaching a topic that clearly carries with it a lot of emotionality for you. As a poetic piece it works well as a narrative that flows logically and consistently. The tale itself is tragic and the way you relay the story is relentless, a horrific journey of confusion and hurt. Is there no room in the piece at all for positivity? I know in real life there isn't, Alzheimer's is the ultimate human tragedy and it is without remorse; yet I wonder if poetic expression can allow us to seek redemptive dimensions; indeed I believe if you were to examine that possibility in this simply expressed poem you could create a real piece of art.

What a beautiful and very sad poem this is.
Indeed it has to be the most crippling of
all diseases, robbing us of our precious
memories and making strangers of our loved
ones.
So sorry for your loss. So tragic too.
This is a lovely tribute and a work of art.
I loved every word.
Marie

I am so sorry and sad for your loss.
Your words hit right in the solar plexus.
I felt his pain and confusion.
Life is messy and death is far from idyllic.
Great poem.
Thank you for sharing.

I applaud your words and can relate to this poem. As a nurse who works with alzheimer patients, you eloquently capture what they maybe thinking. Excellent poetic form.

Really great poem that shows the confusion of alzheimers and what a crippling disease it is.'A life disrupted' is a great title as that is what it is. It's interesting that the family are strangers and he is now more connected with the nurse. Good work

Your poem brought me to tears! You write only as someone who has watched and struggle with this tragedy can. You capture the inner thoughts of one who can not share their inner thoughts. My mother had dementia and I spent lots of time in assisted living and nursing home facilities with her, trying to interpret the world in a way she could not, not wanting her to relive memories of ones who have died. Dang, I need to go get a tissue. Great job!

You managed to capture the core of this terrible ailment by writing in a most intuitive way from the POV of a bewildered sufferer.

Your words, especially the repetition of "strangers" tore at my heart.

The excellent end rhyme and meter flowed smoothly as an unobtrusive backdrop for the unfolding of this account of a day in the life of a victim.

Your author notes added a note of pathos and horror.

Neutral colors and an anonymous image complete the perfect package.

Well done.
