I was moved by this poignant poem, Al. The restrained emotion and prose like quality were effective in pointing up the strong emotional currents the content indicated existed below the surface for me. Sounds like you fulfilled your role in your family despite the anger and pain it caused you out of your love and respect for your mother...I read this as a loving memory of a sensitive caring son.
Well done.

Thanks for understanding my very difficult role in the family dynamics and for a good review.

How sad this is, and now it's making me think. I've never had a good relationship with my mother, and I know I'll have many regrets when her time comes. You have great expression through your words in this piece, and I'd be surprised if anyone had dry eyes while reading it. Take care!

So sad and so beautiful a story you share.
I do remember when my mother died too. I
doubt it is an experience that can ever be
erased from our minds. You words were so
extremely enlightening as to the moods of
those around you. I am sure you are glad
now that you drove home to see her before
she died. It is important for us to say
goodbye.

Yes, it is, isn't it? That's why I endured all the pain. Thanks for a good review.

A lovely free verse in rememberance of your mother Alvin. Well presented and very thoughtfully written and I was sad as I read this well told and narrated tale. A quite compelling read and despite the sad and reflective content I did enjoy your poem. Well done and I am sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad 11 yrs ago and he hung on just long enough for my brothers to fly in from interstate and see him and about an hour after their visit he died. Anyway take care and thanks for a sad but very well penned piece.
Cheers and chin up.

You are very loving with your writing. It's very hard to lose your Mother. I know, my Mom has been with God for 18 years now. I miss her and love her so much and I know she will always be with me in spirit. She is always in my heart and soul!!!! Thanks, God bless, Janalea

Alvin... my thanks to you for posting this poem to your mother's passing. I found a high, slim threnody throughout the read, of pained love. You still have memories of difficulties, don't you? This is well written and reads easily. Congratulations. Pat.

This is a tender poem about the loss of a mother but also about a dysfunctional family. This is all too common these days in this fast paced modern world.

This is a beautiful memory of your mother. Asking you to do this one last thing for her. She must have had many who loved her. Great writing, Love Lavender

Preparing love ones for a death is hard unless you have prepared yourself first. Being from a large family with the youngest at 63, Death is becoming a familiar visitor. Eleven of us are left. Very well written. Good luck in your contest and thank you for sharing.

Hi Al, this is a sad, yet, inspirational free verse poem you have written about the loss of your mother. I can feel the emotions in your words as you remember the disassociation from your family, the strength you showed to tell your mother she could go. You let her go, which is an unselfish and kind act.
Thanks for sharing, Al.
Warmest regards,
Marijke

You are far too kind, I fear.
