Dang, Jessica, this is some powerful stuff here! This voice ain't silence no more. This poem reminds me of the rage one might get from Dylan Thomas. I have been familiar with the five stages for years but never heard it expressed so well. Exceptional. Terry.

Jessica, this is beautifully written. The way you forward each of the 4 stages of grief to its inevitable conclusion of accepting it, is amazing. Such a powerful poem. Well done. You certainly deserve a 6.

I am continually stunned by your talent. Your words capture grief perfectly. Sadly, we have to suffer loss and grief to know what its constant companionship is like and all we have to go through to get to that point. Some of us will never be able to express those feelings, but the comfort of reading the words of someone who can is a relief of sorts. Thank you for always knowing what to say and how to say it perfectly. Outstanding work!

"Stages" is a truly relatable piece, Jess. Each stanza touches on a small part of the realities of life and is written elegantly, as usual.
Beautifully presented and written, Jess. Best, JohnC

The way in which you've personified these emotions makes them as real as we are; in doing so, they become more of a threat - an enemy to be dealt with.
"Tossing coins into an overflowing well" - this line says so much about how we deal with our grief - all the promises we make to whom? To God? To fate? Ourselves? I've done this; we'd sell our souls if we could.
And the end brings us back to the beginning; you've learned to live with that thing in the corner, the two of you having weather these emotions and grown from them together.
Jessica, your talent is stunning. This poem is written by a woman who has been through these stage but unlike us, knows how to describe them in great detail. To humanize them.
Reading your poetry is always a treat - whether it's sad, happy, or funny (as you write it all).
I hope you continue to share your amazing work with us for a long time.

Hi Jessica!
This is a deeply engaged personification of grief. It embodies the intense stages of emotion our souls traverse to process the rawness of our journey. This is excellent work!
Bravo!

We often go through this process when we refuse to accept the reality of a situation such as addiction or something devastating like bankruptcy or grief. A poignant post Jessica, well described and full of real emotions, love Dolly x

You are a master when it comes to imagery! As you write about each of these stages I felt I was experiencing them personally in the moment.
The one on acceptance brought me to tears.
You are such a talented poet, Jessica and a gift to Fanstory.

The issue with this thinking (not your writing) is that it leads people to believe that these stages happen in isolation. The next statement is a contradiction but I would like to read these poems in isolation and give each one the time they deserve. This is a fabulous piece of writing but each one deserves a page of their own.
