-Beautiful artwork and nice presentation, Janet.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-You wrote a very good poem and told
a very good story with effective imagery and rhyme.
-You create a vivid word picture of this special moment.
-I like the description of "almond eyes," and the
part where "He turned around, his nostrils flared."
-Another great reference to "All creatures great and small."
-Very good closing verses, as well.
-I enjoyed reading your poem; good luck in the contest.

What a quietly reflective, serene poem, Janet! I've had similar encounters and can recall the quiet awe of communing with God's creatures one on one!

"But mem'ries of that afternoon
bring joy and peace that's crystal clear."

Agreed!

Beautiful way to describe that memorable encounter. What I liked most is how you treated this fellow creature with a gentle reverence and you both connected without a word, understanding that both of you bear the mark of the Creator. Best wishes in the contest!

Simply stunning both in message and form, Janet.
Perhaps even more so because, a similar experience has happened to me - not with a "Magnificent, King of the Hill," but with a red fox... on more than one occasion.
To share a moment with "one of God's amazing creatures," is both startling and humble... and one most assuredly to be treasured...
Much enjoyed, Janet!

Thank you for sharing!
Fondly,
diane

Thank you diane for your most encouraging comments and those special stars. I'm sure you have had similar experiences knowing where you live. For many years, I lived in northwest Pennsylvania where the deer population was in abundance. Often young doe were in my garden or eating apples and pears in the yard. But the buck were much more illusive so this was just a real treat.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this one.

What a beautiful poetic reflection on life and our place in the scheme of things, so to speak, inspired by the sight of a stag who was also a 'survivor of the hunter's bow' - eloquent, precise use of language.

Magnificent, indeed. It breaks my heart when I seen a deer tied to the top of a truck during hunting season. They are far too beautiful to be killed for fun.

Smiles, Carol

Thank you Carol for your thoughtful review. I grew up in a home where hunting was what sustained my family for food. They never hunted for sport but some do so I know what you mean.
