It is ashamed. Sometimes the government tends to think that young people who are disabled like this could be put just a place and they would be cared for. That's not necessarily the case. I very much admire the steps that you took with Jonathan. I wish you the very best with the writing of the story. Patricia

We need more people like these to continue to fight for those with special needs. It does take a team to meet those needs. What a wonderfully written piece. Best of luck with your writing!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Even before I read this piece who had me with the title, and the answer is ... not enough. And that can be interpreted as someone not caring sufficiently, or there are too few people that do ... care. Now I'll read.
And the sage continues.
The question remains - Were they worried about what would happen if these events were made public - this is a good one, for in my opinion, politicians do what is best for their holding their position, not their constituency. Do tell, and I think you will.

I believe you are right Tom. And in this situation, I took full advantage of the need for this to not have to go higher. And yes, there's a lot more to tell yet .... Thank you for reviewing. I am always encouraged by your support.

Way to go, my friend. I imagine that I would have done the same thing. The almighty state is not a parent, yet when federal monies are paid out, they tend to think that they are. I'm glad you had some real mothers involved. That'll make all the difference. Thank you for sharing. Sending you all my very best.

You warned us that things were going to get a lot worse and I commend you for not losing your rag altogether. Your husband's suggestion was inspired and essential given the emotionally fraught situation you'd been left in. Thank Goodness, that the result of this meeting has, so far, taken some weight off your shoulders (and back). Small edits; para starting Finally she asked.... the 'on' after 'first thing' isn't necessary and sounds a bit awkward; before your last section - Jonath(a)n. This well-written chapter captures the frustration, resentment and anguish clearly experienced and empathised with, only too vividly, by your reader. Thanks for sharing, Wendy. Debbie

Thank you so very much Debbie - I appreciate your acumen, and have fixed those two details. Plenty more yet to come - I do hope you will continue to be engrossed. Thanks again.

Powerful heartfelt and well-written. Wendy, I feel for your struggle for justice for Johnathon. I have been there and done that before as well.
Your detailed saga of going to the leader of your country and what she offered in response shows the complex ways in which government works whether in your country or mine.
Thanks for sharing this tragic tale of who decides who is going to take care of him and who doesn't have his best interests at heart.
What a wild ride you and he go through to get the right help for him. Keep fighting, my friend! Sooner or later justice will be served!

Seems like your Mrs. L. would be akin to our congressman who do seem to get things done more on a one-on-one basis than other elected officials.
Seems at the point of this reading, she has been your God send.
Nicely written, Wendy though I'm feeling there is much more to come.

Yes, she was indeed a God-send, and I was and remain very thankful to her. Your intuition is right ... there's a lot still to come.

This must have been so damned frustrating. I kept trying not to visualize what his life would have become had you not intervened on his behalf. Checking the boxes would be a splendid title for this. You and your family were sent on this mission by God. Y'all were and still are his guardian angel. This was nail biting. Thank you fir sharing this. Gretchen

Thank you Gretchen - that is a good suggestion, and I'll add it to the list. I think he would have died, if he had been left in a motel for any length of time. I too believe it was from God, and I am thinking of adding a reflective chapter at the end to show all the ways He was working everything out for Jonathan. Many thanks for the six stars too. I'm so thankful for your ongoing support and encouragement.

OH, darn! There is a river of tears splattering my keyboard and everywhere else. I could almost feel your pain and frustration, but better than that...I admire your courage and determination to do the right things for Jonathan. You deserve a 6-7-8- the skies the limit in stars for this one! There should be more people like you, fighting for justice and the cause. I'm proud to know you!

Oh, thank you Carol. And yet, you are doing exactly the same, standing strong and looking after your John for so many years, despite the lack of appreciation and acknowledgement. It's a hard slog. Thank you very much for "feeling" everything along with me. I appreciate you.

Your husband did have a great idea! I have been told by persons who have met with their Congressional representatives that things often are accomplished when you involve those who are there to represent your needs. Too few people actually seek their help.
I'm curious to see how this works out.

Thank you very much Pam. Yes, sometimes it's better to go higher up, in order to be heard and to get some action taken. Thanks so much for your positive review.
