I always seem to relate to your stories in some special way, like your brother as a Kirby salesman. And of course, I live in Ohio and my favorite person ever, my grandmother who raised me, was named Jessie. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

-I am glad Terry encouraged you.
-The photo is beautiful; is that from Jess's wedding day?
-You tell a very good story that I enjoyed reading.
-It flows well from each period in your relationship with Jess.
-You show how much you love her, and her mother.
-You also show how you are patient even though it might be difficult sometimes.
-I am impressed by all of the responsibility that Jess took upon herself in order to get go to Australia. I am amazed that a 16 year old would take on all of it and follow through.
-It seems the love and caring she has received has paid off, and she shares those qualities with others whose lives she tries to make better.
-A very good conclusion, too.
-Thanks for sharing this, Ann.

This is a fine story. My first grandchildren are just two and nudging four, so I have a long way to go down that path. But your words:
Grandparents have the advantage of no parental worry or responsibility
resonated with me. All fun, and no fears. I also loved the way you sent Jess to her room, and even more the way she reacted. I will remember that. Kate xx

It's a beautiful story, and an affirmation of your parenting and grand-parenting skills. It's such a special relationship between children and their grandparents, and worth all the time and energy invested. I'm glad you posted this one. Well written.

I thoroughly enjoyed your story. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren are wonderful and keep grandparents young and so busy in life. But that's what makes life interesting.

Hello Ann,
Thanks so much for sharing this heartwarming story about your granddaughter. She sounds like a real gem. It's encouraging to know that the hard work you put in as a parent and grandparent is producing fruit. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.

As a parent, I was mostly playing it by ear -- and not always in tune with reality. lol. It was and continues to be an interesting and educational experience. Thankfully, I have strong children and grandchildren who managed to be who they are and not necessarily who I thought they would be. My goal was always to rear my children to be who they are and to remember they only come through me -- not to me. Thanks so much for the kind review. ann

Hello Ann,
We have seven kids, all grown up, although some don't always act their age. You're right about playing it by ear. They don't come with an instruction booklet. Each of them was different, even the twins. Sounds like you did a great job.
Blessings
Tom

I want you to know, Ann, I am awarding this my final six for the week. I was hold it aside incase FatherFlaps posted one of his always delightful children's poems. But yours did something to me. Unlike my story, Cats, it was in a wholesome way. You have a warm and endearing voice, one that you had to grow into. It's the result of years of conscientious writing.
So, enjoy your sixes. I do have a few suggestions of a grammatical (or puctuational) way, but they in no way take away from my reading expereince. It was Joy!
-of course, she had a room at my house; [of lesser importance, Ann, but you should only use single dashes for hyphens. Use a double dash (in some editing systems it automatically becomes joined into a longer single dash) ; It is called an M-dash.]
"You can just be calm." [Beautiful, it connects so well with the beginning when she stuck her head out of the bedroom door and asked if you were calm yet. I don't know whether that was intentional ... but it should have been! A great echo!]
Jess had me, a place of calm.. [Oh, you are using it as a "dragon seed" (something to connect all parts of the story together) and it's brilliant! I'm not fond of using two periods as you did ending this and the previous sentence. Use a three dot ellipsis if it's an incomplete thought, a four dot ellipsis if it's complete ... but never two dots.]
Thank you for peeling back a corner of your and your family's life.

This is an excellent and heartfelt story. Your granddaughter is a remarkable woman. Even at age 3, she was a bright star, knowing that her grandmother needed a time out.
With her great role models, if she has children, she no doubt will be a great mom.
Best wishes

This is a great story, Ann. What a wonderful relationship you formed with your granddaughter. It must feel so good to see the strong and well-rounded woman she's become.
One suggestion: Fast forward to about her age 3 or so. = Fast forward to her at about age three.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate your words and the suggestion that I re-visit an area. My intent was to describe a scene including a family get-together. I will take another look. nn
