Oh my, you and your wife have been lucky. She was one heck of a woman. I know you and Zoe felt you were on top of the world. I would have. It would have been such a pleasure to meet those people. Thank you for sharing this great story.

You are welcome.

Thank you for giving your readers a glimpse of the past. It was a part of America that people disregard politics and enjoyed their talents, especially the voice of Lena Horne.

Thank you for reading and reviewing my story. Terry.
Comment from Jannypan (Jan)
Your job afforded you to hobknob with many celebs, Terry.
However, the ones who performed at the event were real
people united in a real cause that affected so many, though
a higher percentage of Blacks. You did a great job sharing
your memories. What an A-list of performers, elite businessmen
and women and invited regular citizens. It sounded like the
evening was awesome--an hour and a half performance by Ms.
Horne was awesome in itself, plus the way everyone worked
together.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

John, thank you for reading. I did meet the celebs some sober, some not so sober, but a very cool evening, Terry.

An amazing lady with a honey voice: Lena Horne, a special brand of talent: singer-dancer-actress (Grammy, Tony Emmy
Oscars) she could have won it all in today's entertainment world, an EGOT.
What a fascinating moment in history of which you were a part.
Sparkling in this story: The Lady is a legend, Lena Horne.
-Wonderful historical references
-Like memorabilia
-Wonderful interweaving of audience reactions, participation and your reflections and thoughts.
I would say, how lucky for you to have witnessed and been a part of history.
Wonderful throwback and history. Enjoyed your story.

There is a certain way you tell your stories ( both fiction and nonfiction) that lulls the reader. I felt like everyone there would have been just as excited to be there as I would have. I know a lot of people who frequent fundraisers get a tad jaded but your description was enchanted. You weren't over the top with your description, it didn't seem tainted by the nostalgia the way memories often are. It was just good storytelling. Another winner. Gretchen

Oh, my! What an enormous vault of memories you have opened up and shared with us. I am, I confess, starstruck. Always have been. And now, through knowing you, I have been able to bask in your shadows and visit some of the places you've visited and seen some of the people you've seen. I can just hear Lena Horne's voice as she made her remark to the man in the audience. She could chastise you with that beautiful Lena Horne smile and you would thank her. I remember seeing her on the Bill Cosby sitcom, where he was just as starstruck with her as I. (Now, unfortunately, we may infer the subtext of Cosby's smittenness -- which is also a pity, because I always wanted to be the father Cosby was to his on-air family.) Thank you, for stepping up to the plate again, my friend. You drove the ball deep this time!

Mr. Squires, it is indeed an honor you have bestowed upon me. Thank you. I will never forget her finger waggle! LOL. She was a lovely lady. Terry.

So, I couldn't find anything grammatically wrong. This is nicely laid out and flows well. I found it interesting because I did not know any of this. Keep up the good work!

Terry,
You certainly did "get around." I could hear Lena singing Stormy Weather as soon as you mentioned it. I think you were successful in recreating some of the magic of that special night.

Sue, thank you for reading and catching the edits. I simply can not see them, no matter how many times I read it. Terry.

Terry,
That happens to all of us. We read what we thought we wrote. I've found it helps to let something sit for a couple days and read with "fresh" eyes. But that's one reason we are here -- free proofreaders and editors. :-)

The good news is you may save me some embarrassment from Eagle Eyes Gary. Terry.

Tell him Hawkeye took care of it. :-)

LOL, will do!

I, of course, had to go over to Youtube and listen to 'Stormy Weather' by Leana Horne. Beautiful voice. I remember Hank Aaron and Drew Pearson. Yes, I'm that old. Thank you for sharing this wonderful event with us.
