This is such a beautiful and enduring story. Winnie reminds me of my grandmother...very clean in house cleaning, body and soul. She prayed the rosary as well every night...She has picture of the Sacred Heart. She raised med, in my heart she will always be my mother. This story brought such delightful memories.

Thanks for sharing about your very strong and energetic grandmother. Wow, at 68, to come and help raise four kids! I laughed about your brother being the "oldest altar boy." I still remember about the All Saints' Day and imagine the makeup still on him.
One verb seems to be omitted here:
"Winnie [was] born in Fogo Island, Newfoundland"

They bred them tough in those, and they tended to be "very" religious. But I know they had a tough life, and clung to their home grown philosophies and ways. I loved this biographical account of your life Mary. I could listen to them all day, or rather read them, as I am now. Well done, a great write, blessings Roy

This is a lovely tribute to your grandmother. It is well written and interesting. It sounds like she was a no-nonsense yet caring lady. Nicely done.

You did a great job describing Winnie. I enjoyed reading your account of her. I could see everything you mentioned, Mary. Nana was a strong-willed woman in a time when women didn't assert themselves. The picture is a great reminder of this dear woman who taught you and your family so much about perseverance in her life and yours. The foreign language line was funny as French is foreign to many.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you Jan for the kind words and review. I think it was her being a Newfoundlander during a time when you had to be self-reliant.
