Comment from Hitcher
I loved your story, the faith your mother had in you even though you didn't see it. She knew, she knew you would one day hatch out and awaken from your slumber and embrace the gift you were giving at birth. I was 44, 44 before I sat down and expressed myself through my poetry. I love it too friend,,, love it !

Yes, Hitcher, I am still astounded at how mothers can know, and that even we latebloomers can have a second chance to pursue the gift they have been given. Thank you for your generous, six star review.

What a lovely sad yet heartbreaking story of a mother and son and there expectations of each other yet mother knows . I'm sure she would be extremely proud of the writer you have become.

Andre, your heartfelt piece is very touching, and exceptionally difficult for me to review.
"I did not believe your Cassandra-like prophecy..." cleverly smacks of redundancy. Excellent!
I can relate to your regret about your mom not living to enjoy the talents she knew were dormant.
If you talk to her these days, read her "Dead Butterfly and Sleeping Giant."

Oh, thank you, Don, for your generous review of my heartfelt piece. I may read my poem aloud in case Mom can hear me. Thank you once again.
Comment from CD Richards
This is such a great story - it induces quite a sense of emotion on the part of the reader (well, this reader at least), and yet it avoids a saccharine-sweet display of it, as evidenced by the simplicity of the following line:
"She then gave me a gift subscription to Poets & Writers and died."
The haiku at the end fits perfectly.
Terrific job, thanks for sharing. Craig

WOW! What an interesting story filled with rich education as well. These circumstances are truly uncommon and makes the writing very captivating indeed. The overall packaging and presentation of this work is very well done and I cannot suggest anything to improve it in any way. Many thanks for a fine read! HIS GRAYNESS

This is a beautiful tribute to your amazing mother and her love and insight.
Your are truly blessed to have had such a mother Andre.
This one brought tears. I have a son who I was sure would be the next Hemingway - he wrote with such depth and feeling as a teenager, but alas, he has not found that calling... ..yet. He is now 53 and has 8 children of his own so he does have other priorities. haha
I loved the story of your mother and the haiku is truly inspired and perfect for your story.
I'm sure your mother is looking down with joy and pride in her beloved son.
Blessings

A beautiful story, Andre. Recounted in a lively, theatrical way.
A powerful testimony to a mother's faith. I had one such mother too.
Blessed we were, even when we didn't realize it!
Well done!
