God has all type of creatures living underground. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is very good imagery.

How very neat to take one living in the city and showing them great things of the west. Nature and each area has lots of fun in them people just gotta find it and share it. This is great. Inspiring.

Thank you for sharing this I am presuming that all the facts are correct if they are then I have learnt so much about prairie dogs things I did not know I knew what they looked like and that they lived under ground but that was it. So on the interest side alone I have given a six for an interesting and informative read. Thank you.

This is a simple story, but delightful in its writing complexities. A vignette, that could easily be the introduction to a book, you made Jake's character come to life, and I could see him sitting by the fire.

What others might do to the narrative dialogue. might easily turn into a lecture or a boring textbook explanation about prairie dogs, but you used Jake's voice, turned him into a very interesting storyteller.

I think a little tweak to enhance the scene, might be the inclusion of the boy's ages so that the reader has a sense whether their awed innocence is age-related/ A very minor point as I had them pegged at eight or ten. But, their age came into my mind.

You interjected the boys' questions or movements, allowing for the longer dialogue to fit into the spaces with ease. Even the ending was precious, and the boys' reaction to finding out the rodents weren't dogs.

Loved it. Except... the last paragraph was confusing. If the punctuation is correct, then the quotation marks show Jake still talking, and refers to himself as Jake. Yet, it seems more like Luke talking, much later after the journey was completed. Please look at the closing again.

I wondered all the way till the end, why you described small animals as prairie dogs, but at the end you put the story straight: they are not dogs but barking squirrels. Is that a joke? Best wishes for the contest.

It's not a joke, it's just the way they have been portrayed. Thank you for the good comments.

There being no prairies in Wales there are no prairie dogs either so i I have no way of telling whether Jake is shooting a line or giving us a lesson.

Since I have heard of prairie dogs and i did know that they aren't dogs, I am going along with th this story and say that I have learned a great deal from it. Are you having a good laugh at my limey ignorance.
