Yes, kids these days don't understand we had to earn our money. And everyone went visiting everybody else. Family meant a lot more then. I am close with my two younger sisters now, and do not know how I managed so long without them. I always wanted to see comedies. And , I had to have popcorn and coke at the movies. Otherwise it is uncivilized. Karen

Thank you, Karen. Family was very important back in the day. I had no sibling but many cousins and a lot of even close one I never got to meet. I glad you have sisters who are close.

I also had a crush on a cousin.
Alas, he did not know that I existed. :-)

What a jam-packed six weeks. Sounds like everyone was determined to show you a good time. Going back to Mississippi could have gone either way - totally bored, and totally content to live at a slower pace, without surprises.

Now that sounds like a summer vacation that every girl would like to have in her teenage diary. You did an awesome job, as usual, in telling the story and entertaining the reader. Well done.

I am enjoying your journey so much I almost don't want the next chapter to come. You are a top-notch writer. One question: Did you mean "a young Clark Gable"? Also, I once took a girl to two movie theaters in one day. Tht shows interest.

Thank you, Jim. I really appreciate you saying I'm a top-notch writer. I enjoy thinking about my earlier life and it is fun writing about it.
Thank you so much for the six stars.

Hi Beth, I enjoyed reading
your Texas summer vacation
with relatives recollections.
Good story. I was born in
1957, and have many 1960's
stories. I was born and raised
Catholic on Long Island, but
joined the Southern Baptist
church with my late husband
in North Carolina, where I've
been living for over 35 years.
I hope you have a cozy
November evening.

Summers were the best, especially if you were allowed to spend time away from home. That was very strange that you would meet up with your former best friend out of the blue. Good story. Keep em coming.

Thank you Marilyn. I loved being away from home and I never remember getting homesick but the summer before this one I almost died at summer camp. This one was much better.

I'm afraid, Beth, when I hear too many characters' names in a family or story, my mind does a bit of a flip and refuses to take things in. But trust me, I did try:( Otherwise, the chapter was as entertaining as ever. I'm always particularly impressed with your memories which seem as clear as though they happened yesterday.
...interested in boy(s) way too young (no apostrophe).
Thanks for sharing. Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. This one did have a lot of people in it. I only wrote about the one's my family have heard about most often. I left a lot of them out because I knew they would mean nothing to most of my reviewers.
