This comes on my birthday and after a call from my daughter saying she loves me. What more precious words could a father want? Thank you for expressing in your eloquent words the father-daughter relationship.

OMGosh, Jim, when was your birthday. I did not have you on my birthday list. I thought I did, but it was not for now. If you send me some info about yourself I will write a late one for you. I am so sorry I missed it, but if you allow, it will be posted in the next couple days.
Also, you are so very kind and I thank you for the awesome review and comments. . It is all very much appreciated.

I'm sorry. I'm not seeking a poem or anything. I just felt so good that, in her thirties, my daughter still calls ech night to say "I love you!" I didn't men to call attention, otherwise to myself. Just to answer you, my birthday is on that awful day, Sept.11, best left unremembered. I turned 50 tht terrible day, started the day with a meeting, and none of the professionals wanted to be there, worrying about their families.
-
Jim, I can see why that day will always haunt you. And I also hope that the memory of what your loving daughter did, always takes first memory of that date. I think a poem that's telling what a horrible day it is for all, is so beautified by a loving wish like that. If you change your mind let me know. And I do wish you a belated happy birthday.
-
You've given me thought. Maybe I can rework tht memory into a post on this site, now or in the future. I have some ides, already. Thanks!
-
Ooops, forgot I was talking on a site of unknown post. So sorry but pm any info you have. I wish I could delete our conversation. I completely forgot we were talking on a blind contest. Can you delete it from your end.
-
On my end, it's blind. You don't have to worry. I've done the same thing myself. On my side it has no human picture and says "Blind Contest Entry".
-
Thanks Jim, we will just hope it doesn't get seen. It truly was an honest mistake, but then again it could be anyone offering to do a poem. Lol..
-
Don't worry! I can be trusted!

This is a great job with monorhyme. You have put together a sequence of events in a very clever manner. I'm going back and change my five stars to six stars.

It's so unfortunate, we only have only one word for love in English, we used to have charity, but that changed its meaning. In my long life I've experienced all of these, and now, of course, I've got grandchildren so that's another form. This is beautifully written my friend, excellent job my friend, blessings Roy

Love wears many costumes... Yet in the end, it is the giving away of our hearts... selflessly, without reservation.
Only in giving love are we blessed to receive it with an open heart!

Thanks so much Karenina. I think that is what I tried to do with this one. I wanted to show what it felt like from a guy who experienced different kinds of love and gave it back. Thanks for your kind words, my sweet friend.

And I know who that man is! (Shhhhh)
Smile...

Big Smiles right back to you, along with a HUG!

I frequently lament the extent to which poets resort to statements about things rather than to the depiction of things. "Four Kinds of Love in His Life" delineates four types of love that most men will in the course of their lives experience toward women. And this poem brings these four forms of love to mind. However, we experience love through our senses as well as through our minds, and generally sensual images will be more breath-taking than summaries created through thinking about how to say something pleasant and nice.

Oh no Frank. Two fours in a row for me. I guess I have to stop being so emotional in my writing. I guess I don't know how to think like a man. And yet I have had many men think this was wonderful and even been given sixes for it. Lol. Lucky for you, you got the shorter version of it when I realized that it could only be four lines per stanzas. Initially I had written a fifth line for the I will always love you part. I do write with from my heart, and these were words that have been spoken to me.
-
I failed again to be kind. Where does "I must be cruel only to be kind" come from? W.S.? Indeed it does, from Hamlet, the greatest (my opinion) of W.S.'s plays. It is my thought that I will probably not renew my membership to FS. 'I feel that I must sail a different sea, whose beauties and odors are stimulants only to me.' I shall be a lonely lighthouse atop a beach of funky sludge, hoping to guide some kindred spirit towards a different harbor.
-
Come on Frank. Nothing I said was that cruel either. If you left how will I benefit from the times I see that you are right. After all, you do know who I am and you also know that the majority of the time, I take what you have to say and run with it. However it doesn't mean that it will never hurt. Do I get angry, no and I didn't think I made it sound like it. You are my friend and I have the right to disagree if you don't like what I write and visa versa. Do I wish you would not review me. Hell NO. So please don't change. I just had a bit of a bad morning. I am still a woman after all. And I still think you are right more than I think you are wrong. So there!!! Lol

Your graces are legion. Frank

What a sweet entry for this contest -- true love inspired this poem, I think.
Your repetition in each stanza's closing line is very effective, and I enjoyed the charming presentation. Best of luck in the contest!

Beautifully presented, covering all the aspects of love. I enjoyed this because it is different and not just focused on one love. Starting with mother and carrying on down the years. I wish you well in the contest.

This is a fine piece of poetry for the Love Poem Contest. Even the color was fitting.

This love poem is an excellent contest entry that should do well.
The artwork and font were perfect choices, giving the overall presentation a feminine feel.
The rhymes throughout are unforced and flow smoothly from line to line, and stanza to stanza.
Good luck in the contest!
