Wow, what a turn of events, Carol. I know how hard your son works on his films, and to have this one 'canned' and the reason is heart breaking. He took the high road, though. His 'good friend' did seem to use him and others. I wish her no ill will, but hopefully she will realize the harm she caused. Thank you for sharing this. Who would've thought?

Very interesting. How do you really know she was that ill? Maybe the reason doctors could not diagnose her condition was because she had no real condition. There has been many Go Fund Me scams and many Covid scams. It happens every time a disaster event occurs. Money and greed can change people or bring out sides we didn't know they had.

She sounds like she has a mental illness and is a danger to Matt. Please tell him to stay away from her especially when she tries to contact him again. I know someone like that and she has totally drained another friend dry with her emotional manipulation.

Yes, it was a horrible betrayal by a so-called friend. It always hurts worse when it is someone you love and trust who turns on you in this manner. My heart goes out to your son. Hugs to you all.

So sorry for what your son is going through and I pray that somehow the Lord will help him and work this out for good. Thank you for your update. It is hard to understand why these things happen, and takes a lot of faith to just trust God to work it out.

I just hope he doesn't let the loss of her friendship and the movies get him down and he lets go of his dreams. He's too good for that to happen.

Our hearts never totally mend when someone we trust and believe in deceives us. But hopefully, as disappointing as it is, Matt will learn from this painful lesson. I hope the young lady will learn from it too. That she will get everything she has coming to her, and pay the price of losing a valuable friend. I'm sorry we can't trust many in this world.

I know she was/is very ill but some of the things just don't add up, especially when they are blaming Matt not her.

It's crazy when folks you think you can depend on disappoint you. It's scary and frustrating and kinda makes the Earth feel a bit shaky. I'm very sorry your son discovered that son people can be a bit... self-absorbed and nasty.
I was trying to think of things from her side. Maybe she felt your son was putting a simple old movie in front of her LIFE, you know? But that doesn't really wash to me. If I was really near death, I probably wouldn't care a fig for ANY of that stuff. Wouldn't care if stuff was posted/not posted, right? So I'm not sure if that excuse works. It's getting the thumbs down from me.
I always try really hard to be fair and to see things from all sides - it's the Libra in me. But I end up just hurting for the one who put everything out there and got nothing but pain back.
I appreciate you sharing the story. There are still sooooo many trusting people out there - which is good. But we all need to learn to temper our trust with care and patience and caution. Even here - your son thought he knew this girl! Good grief.

I pray and hold my breath... but he's much like his Mom...gullible and searching for the best in everyone regardless of how they trample us.

Has he done the GoFundME routes?

He did it once on facebook but didn't promote except among his friends. He doesn't want to keep asking them for money. He's had some interest from churches and such for the last two but she just blew that out of the water.

He needs to go to GOFUNDME.
Period. He doesn't have to get his friends and family involved if he doesn't want to. I was going to use them at one time. It's really, REALLLLY simple to set up an account there. He has to explain what he's doing and then wait for them to approve of it - which is pretty much no problem.
Seems like there are rich people out there who love to help other folks out, which is so amazing, right?
What you do is promise to give stuff back. So folks are not giving but getting nothing in return.
Examples:
for what I might have given for help with a book
$0- 25 donated- a personal letter of thanks
$26- 50 -- a personal letter of thanks
and a book-themed bookmark
$51- 100 - a personal letter of thanks,
a book-themed bookmark,
and a book-themed pen
$101-200 - a personal letter of thanks,
a book-themed bookmark,
a book-themed pen,
and a signed first edition
ETC.
I mean, I don't know if this is exactly right - but you get the idea. If/when he goes to look at others on there, he'll see what I'm talking about AND get lots of ideas of what he can offer.

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it so much. He so deserves a break. Not because he is my son, but because he has given it his all and found himself stifled by someone else.
