Tears are falling, Bob.
What a tragic story.
I am very sorry you went through this horrible event.
What a painful thorn in your heart.

My children (I have a son and a daughter) were in a horrible car accident four years ago.
They were cut out of the vehicle by the Jaws-of-Life and taken to two different hospitals.
My daughter was life-flighted to a hospital and placed on a respirator.
That horrible phone call changed my life forever.
I can't even BEGIN to imagine going through losing one of them. I am so very sorry for your loss and pain.

This story is so well written. It expresses your emotions very well and draws the reader in to experience this event with you. The photo gives us a wonderful visual of your Bobby - his youth and his spirit.

It is difficult to give suggestions on such a personal story... but I have a few things listed below - ignore if you chose.
*I went back to mowing (the) lawn.
*it was Harper Grace hospital's (Hospital's)
*Farmington hills (Hills)
*at Ronald McDonald house (at the Ronald McDonald House)
*The faces of our son's friends, were sad (no comma)

Beautiful, emotional writing, Bob.
You've touched my soul.
Blessings and hugs, my friend.
This is well deserving of the win.
Nic

Hi Bob,
I just popped in to see if you had anything new in the offing. I read this. No doubt the sixty or so responses you've had already have said all that I can say.
MY kids are up north with their grandparents, on school holidays. My wife went up there yesterday to collect them and today I will be heading up to meet them at our bach(holiday home). Right now I could really use a hug from them.
I'm glad you won the comp with this one.

My name is Laurence. My buddies call me Exmate on account of my last name being Exeter.

Laurence is fine. But you can call whatever you like, really.

Bob,

This is well written short, short story and flows so smoothly. It is easy to understand why the story has won this contest. My one great regret is that it is autobiographical. That mountain top is one that I pray that I never live to see. It is difficult to congratulate
a man who has shared the worst possible moment in his life. So let me just say that it is a vivid description
of a tragic event.

Sincerely, Lyle

I'm at a loss for words, but full of emotion after reading "Top of the Mountain", a perfect title by the way. I'm so sorry for you and your wife. I wish there was something I could say to make things better. Your writing is as heart felt and good as it always is. It read like a Lifetime movie.

Your story makes me stop and think. Is there a grand plan, a destiny for all of us? Do things happen for a reason or is everything a random event? I lean toward things happening for a reason, but my mind is too small to grasp what that reason is.

Two weeks before my Godmother passed away, while driving home from work, as I turned onto my street, a service engine light on my car that had been on for months suddenly turned off. As I pulled into the driveway I thought the light had burned out. I walked into my house and noticed one of my battery operated laterns was on, but still on the shelf. I asked my wife if she used it and she said no. So, I go to turn it off, and it's already turned off, yet it's on? So I turn it on, then off and that turned it off. Two weeks pass, I get a call my Godmother is dying in the nursing home. I rush to see her that night and when I walk into her room, the ceiling lightbulb flashes bright then burns out. We turn on a side lamp. I tell her I love her, she tells me she love me. We exchange smiles before she falls back to sleep. I go home and learn the next day she had a lot of energy and felt the best she felt in months, even able to get up and go to the cafeteria. That night the service engine light lit on my car again and I feared what it might mean. She had passed that night at about the same time the light lit. True story, I can't make this stuff up. I can't explain it either. But it tells me there's more to life and death than we know or can know.

Take care and God bless.

Steve

It is a very well written story, I am just so sorry that you had the story to tell. I can't begin to imagine the pain you feel and all I can say is that I will pray for your comfort. You are a great writer, again I am sorry you had this story to write, but you honored him well with it. He sounds like the perfect son.

Amazing story. I had no idea. I am so sorry. This must have been painful to write. You told the story well. I rarely give away my six stars but this deserves one. Today I gave them both away. Excellent writing that is filled with emotion.

What a handsome boy. I read this story last night but couldn't review it until today. You are very brave to share this chapter of your life. As usual your writing is the best. Your note about hugging them is so true.

Oh, Bob, I just almost can't even comment on this. All the little irritating things that go in our lives are nothing compared to this. Bobby sounds like an awesome son and I'm sorry this happened. You have a wonderful gift and you used it to the fullest in the telling of your story.
