I wonder if the Thousand Oaks Acorn would print this? I thought about sending them a letter complaining about all the F-ing fireworks, terrifying the war veterans and every dog for miles around.
Great job on this - sarcastic, humorous, but with a deadly vein of truth. We could end up in this place!! F-ing Trump would lead us there.

They're setting off explosives around here. What ever happened to sparklers? Yep, my poor dog is shaking like a leaf. Wow. Can you imagine the homeless vets hearing all the explosions, how awful. I'm just holding my breath over Trump. Surely we aren't that insane. :)) mikey

Great satire and a food point regarding the Kook who wants to make America Great again. The Eisenhower years were wonderful, if you were the right race and religion and had the accepted sexual preference and if you weren't a pregnant teenage girl.

OK Mikey, and what a letter it is too. Much truth in them thar lines. Although I did chuckle a little, I found it does give one something to think about.
I guess we could call their doings, giving it the 'blind eye,' or even, 'it does not apply to me.' Such hypocrisy from them.
I enjoyed reading and think you did a fine job writing it.

The title caught my eye. This essay is well written and causes the reviewer to pause and think. There's a lot to thing about. No matter which side you're on, we are in a huge mess and I see no way out.

Hey Mav, excellent job writing a satirical letter to the editor. A ton of chuckles poking fun at what appears to be clear hypocrisy linked to the Statue of Liberty (a gift to the USA from France) and equality and freedom for all but only for those who are considered people according to the constitution at the time.
This form can definitely be one of the hottest political potatoes so the author would need to scrupulously inspect the contents for facts as political opponents will jump all over not only the author, but also the media outlet for any misrepresentation of the facts.
So this is in actuality a fiction post even with satirical reference to facts, such as the Donald's oddball domestic and foreign policies--if you can call them that.
Super job and I'm glad you wrote this to clear up the fiction/non-fiction line which really is a tough call, but always err on the side of calling it reality-based fiction.
Lots of chuckles and I might even try writing a letter to the editor myself.

Thanks, Ange. I was hoping for your input as I'm a bit unclear as to what constitutes fiction or non-fiction. It's especially difficult for me as I have a tendency to drift off on tangents that are decidedly fictional in nature even in a non-fiction piece. So it can get cloudy.

As one of our briefest reigning kings said before he became king, on seeing the state of the Welsh miners, "Something must be done". And what did he do when he became king? He abdicated in order to marry an American divorcee. Well, I mean to say. A bit much what? I have often wondered why he had to go.
Was it because she was American? An American queen? No I didn't mean it that way. But you can surely see why she wasn't suitable.
Was it because she was a divorcee (twice, wasn't it?). And as king he was defender of the faith. It didn't say which faith mind. Mormons?
Was it because we just could not bear the the thought of praying for "Our sovereign lady, Wallace" every Sunday in church. I mean what next? King Grommet?

Wow. I saw that term, "free form" and I was a bit panicky.
Well, I guess it gives us a lot of freedom, almost too much. But once we get a topic I think we'll be okay. This was fun to write anyway. LOL mikey
