Dean,
Happy Holidays to you! I am so grateful for your writing here. I totally agree. I don't buy my child nearly as many gifts as most of her friends or children of our friends get. I just can't, emotionally or financially. I want her to know I love her with love and not just gifts. At some point you grow up and the presents disappear. Sigh. Awesome write!

Barbara

Thanks, Barbara, what a lovely thing to say. I'm very glad you liked this one, it was a bit of a stray away from my normal, more horrific fare.
Thanks again, my friend!

Dean,
It was a great job.

Barbara

A perfect Thanksgiving story. Money can't buy a lot of things: perfect health, love, and true friends. Have to admire the woman's pride and love the imagined grin on the dead man's face.

This is a fantastic story that the author has created with this piece of writing. It reminds me of my father's funeral. He was considered to be a man of limited means. His father was on Friday, but thousands of people took time off work to attend. The Minister said that it was the biggest funeral that he had ever attended. He was rich in the way that mattered as well. Well done with this poem. It struck a chord with me.

Thanks very much, Tomes, I really appreciate your kind comments.
I am sorry you lost your father. The loss of a parent is something I don't think you ever get over completely.

Yes, it's always there, but I mostly remember the fond memories of him. Take care.

I wrote a review and the web page froze. This has happened on Fan Story several times. I don't have a problem elsewhere.
Your story, though brief, carries a powerful message. Gratitude and love need to be spoken as you say in your author notes. Sometimes just a smile and hello may be the nicest thing that happens to a person on a given day. Thank you for this timely post!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Dean (and to all a good night!).
A touching little parable, with lots of food for thought.
Well done!

If you die having friends, your are far richer, even though you died penniless. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Merry Christmas Dean. Charlie.

I really liked this peice of work, and I think that it is great. I really liked how you just left the ending there, I always love works of poetry or writing that kind of just end and leave you wanting more.

Thank you, ibmusic, I appreciate that!
The guidelines of this prompt call for a story of less than 100 words, and no more than 200, so you have to work within those rules.
