This is a well-told story also. I was born with the left side of my head attached to my shoulder. They poked fun at me, too, but I became the fastest runner in my country school. You have one sentence that needs some repairs, mostly keeping to the first person. . . . (had) to take (her) baby . . . before (she) could see (me).

You did an excellent job of telling your story of how you overcame adversity. I was impressed by your resilience and stamina at sports and climbing trees even though you thought you would not live long you outlived many in your class, I'll bet because you listened to your grandfather who told you the saying you ended with at the finish of the story. When the going gets tough, that is when it is right for you. I saw no spags or typos. You write with an earnest desire to be heard.
Thanks for the inspirational story!

Hi Harry,
Thanks for sharing your story with us. There are so many people out here that have their own challenges to overcome. Some people let these challenges define them and give them excuses to give in. You are a great encouragement to such people. To all of us, because we all have something. I'm glad you used yours to improve yourself.
Great job of writing as well. Your style was interesting and engaging.
Take care,
Rhonda

Hi Harry,
I love your story. Your pacing is perfect. Your experience living with and overcoming the reactions of your deformity, along with your grandfather's advice following through to the end, made this a perfect read. It's very inspiring!

Excellent, we all what I call hang ups great challenger's but many allow these things to control their lives. I for one also had a problem but like you a hitch in the Army solved the issue. Glad we both made it. Good post.

Harry,
What a great story this is. Kids can be so cruel sometimes if you look different. Your grandfather was a smart man for putting those things inside your head. Good for you.

What a motivating story of pure stubborn bloody-mindedness overcoming life's obstacles.
Did you ever manage to find out what the defect was?
Regardless. Kudos to you my friend, you are an inspiration.

Thank you so much Tim for your kind review. I truly appreciate that! No, my mother never really knew - she was very young and did not find out and I never knew either.

You have the strength and courage of a powerful spirit. I like how you write of your amazing support system that got you the blessings and challenges in being different from others. Such a good family story of knowing adversity creates a living journey of success. Be strong in your life's journey.

What a remarkable attitude you have, and how lucky were you to have a grandfather who helped instill that in you? I tremendously respect that you overcame adversity simply by refusing to give up.
It took courage to tell a story so personal and painful to you, and to do so directly and without embarrassment. You don't have anything to be embarrassed about, but to know that logically and to accept it emotionally are two different things. You seem to have mastered both, and I'm grateful that you've chosen to share your personal story with your new FanStory friends.

Thank you so much Michele for your very kind review. I truly appreciate your words! Yes, it has been a rough road at times, but nobody ever promised me a rose garden...
-
The good thing is, it doesn't sound as though you ever expected a rose garden. You didn't set unrealistic expectations. You took life as it came, and learned to deal with the struggles. That's truly the best one could hope for--not that you don't get challenges, but that you manage to deal with them.
