Indeed a parable written with consummate skill. Its message is clear. Relationships are everything. And yet we so often choose the company of our own isolation; our invulnerability which we confuse for as surety. And then we wonder where our lives escaped to. Of course, finally we have to face alone the one great tragedy of our lives; our demise. I think our author says it all. I knew one man, who anticipated his death and made light of it. He had the last laugh. -Ekim777

Interesting parable. Yes so many townspeople came to his funeral. I wonder where they were when the tax man was sending letters and will they now feed his family. But i do get the message you are conveying.

Some people, many I know personally, are too proud to ask for help. My father-in-law is a good example. He was evicted from his house because his wife (my wife's mother) passed away, and he lost all of her income. He told no one, not even his daughters, how badly he was struggling. There are a lot of people out there, and we're always so busy, wrapped up in our own lives, we simply don't ask.

How true, Dean. We should always be thankful for those we love, not worry about possessions.
I hate to go through this season of greed and think that an iphone or some such gizmo will make a difference in a family's love for one another... but sometimes it takes a few hard knocks to see what matters.

This is a very uplifting story Dean. You have earned my last six of the week. Love IS the greatest gift of all and it is indestructible. Love is eternal. As My family ages we have come to understand that 'things' are not important. Christmas is for loving! Well done. Nancy

Thank you very much for "getting it", Nancy. I believe just as you do. Money, you leave behind. But, your reputation and the lives you touch while you are here, those are priceless.

Hi Dean Kuch,
I like the widow's spirit, and she has reason to be proud of her husband's generosity. I suspect she's not the first widow left in such circumstances by her spouse's generosity, but it is the way we should all behave if we claim to believe in the lessons of the Gospels. We are supposed to 'live' it.

Yes, we sure are, Patrick. We don't enter heaven through our works or our good deeds, but only by coming to the foot of the cross and Jesus, Himself.
Thanks for the read nad excellent review, my friend.

Excellent.
Your money stays here when you die. Shrouds have no pockets.
You reputation stays here when you die.
How much money you had, no one remembers.
Your reputation will always be remembered.
Many people seek only wealth, they believe that they can withstand any onslaught to their reputation, but their celebrity is soon forgotten but their lack of integrity will always be known.

We are never guaranteed tomorrow, so tell those in your lives whom you love, adore, admire and respect, how much you do. Many times, the simplest gifts are the greatest gifts of all.
Whoa Dean, what an amazing message to all the human beings. This is a master piece, a reminder to everybody, appreciate what they have, and give if they can. I loved the spirit in that poem, your depth message is so welcome to the heart. I really enjoyed reading your poem. Bless you, Hugs Terry.....xx

Thanks very much, Terry. I made this story a little shorter with you in mind, my friend, since the last one I posted was a bit too long for you.
I'm very glad you were able to get through this story, and that you appreciated the message.
Thank you...

Hi my friend. I am writing to you to explain that I have high blood pressure,
which the doctor told me I have to rest as much as I can till the new pills will start doing there effects. So just to let you know that I might not be able to review all your poems, please forgive me temporarily until I get better. I will, but not as often as before. Please don't worry, I am fine, its just some time to see how the medication will work. Take care, see u soon. Hugs Terry

Hi Dean,
What a wonderful post, showing the importance of friends and family. I really liked your character of the woman, one who couldn't be swayed or bought. She was wealthy, surrounded by friends and family. Monetary goods don't buy happiness. They provide instant gratification, and soon fade.
You showed this so well in the story.
Happy holidays to you!
Bye
Rosalyne :)

Thanks for another of your very touching reads and words of truth. I'm thankful every day for my many blessings and having someone to love me. Yet even since a child, the holidays can get depressing when I think of those less fortunate.
