I really enjoyed this chapter, even though I generally regard romance as "mush." These two people speak with great intelligence and generally get to the point. As for the writing, I have only one suggestion:
"While searching for Cassie, the professional side came through." No nit here, but this sounds a bit too dry for vital conversation. I'd write, ""While [I searched / I was searching] for Cassie, the professional side came through."
Eastern Europe is very much a center of the sex trade, and I've heard the country Romania mentioned most often. Apparently, Romanian women have a reputation for being beautiful.
So you're on your next round of chemo. We're thinking of you and wish you all the best.

Phew ... I'm so relieved they are back to normal again. Although actually I still as curious as Sara about the contents of the duffel bag. A ring, maybe? Or something that reveals Joe's darker side? I enjoy reading this chapter, Barbara. Glad the chemo went well.
