A generous slice of social history conveyed with a large dash of humor and fun as this young Irish lad adjusts to his new life in a new country - such excitement - thanks for sharing this memory

Zanya, thanks a bunch!
Comment from Pam Lonsdale
This brought such a smile to my face! You must have thought you'd died and gone to heaven instead of America. And your grandpa sounds wonderful - how many would share the slurp from the bowl routine with a child.
A terrific free verse entry. Good luck.

Comment from Beri Bee
This lovely poem starts out in beautiful form. It's almost traditional, describing tradition. It's excellent! As the subject transitions to a new place, the style transitions and becomes more free form. The story of it is poignant for many reasons: goodbye to the old ways; how the poet's grandfather knew a way to reassure and introduce a small boy to a new world.

You guys always eat such a large breakfast! But we call them coco pops over in England and my kids loved them. Chocolate for breakfast has become a bit of a fad for kids as the sugar rush helps their energy levels, a fun post and I enjoyed that little bit of history of yours here too, love Dolly x

Cute poem. I can see the young boy's face during his first encounter with Cocoa Puffs. Great children's poem. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

Nice work. Good story, well told.
Even though I do not like chocolate, I can appreciate that others (most) do.
I hope he fared well in America. It sounds like he should.
Best wishes.

Thanks Carolyn, I am pleased this evoked a flood of memories, and yes I did enjoy those chocolate corn puffs.

You are welcome.

Well personally I like the idea of the Irish breakfast better than the chocoholic's fare. You'd be set up for the day on the Irish one but you'd have room to guzzle potato chips all day on that American apology for a meal.

That is a absolutely very true, one couldn?t turn much peat on a cocoa puff breakfast.

But then perhaps you didn't need to in the USA.
