This is a superb write.
It makes one proud of the efforts of our military. It highlights the courage and skill of these young people who place their lives on the line so that we might enjoy our freedom.
As Australians we stand proudly with your country and we join in the salute to these heroes. And to the familes of the fallen soldiers.

This is a beautiful tribute to an American hero. We've lost so many. The poem is so nicely written with great use of wording and rhyme.

We lose far too many of our fine young soldiers overseas. They bravely face danger and loneliness every day to be killed far too easily and randomly by an unseen enemy. Afterwards another family and community is devastated by the loss of one so young.

Will was a good kid, and he frequently visited our home and stayed the night over at our home. My son and Will were close friends, played on the high school baseball and basketball teams together. He wanted to work for NASA one day. Sadly, his dream will never be fulfilled.
Thank you for honoring Wills memory with a fine review, Ward. I hate war, and everything about it. But as a former US Marine, I understand what it means to not be afraid to die for a cause you believe in. Will understood that. I know he did.

Very well written and such a timely post around the fourth. I hope you get through to a bunch of people, because so often, people don't realize the sacrifice our vets make. I'm a vet, brother's a vet, Several Uncles and my dad. The troops today are fabulous. Bill

I am an ex-marine myself, bhogg, so I know all too well the sacrifices made, my brother. I was a sniper, trained at Fort Bragg, in Georgia.
This boy I wrote about, Will, was a close friend of my son's and a wonderful, passionate young man. It was heartbreaking to watch his father that sad day at Will's funeral. I wrote it pretty much as I experienced it.
Thanks, bhogg, and I salute you for your service to our great nation.
I'm the extremely ugly Marine on the right. This photo was taken on my graduation day, from P.I. Training Depot, in 1980.

This is a wonderful tale of a waste of a young hero's life, with the fourth of July two days away it is even more poignant, I am not going to say much about the structure of your beautiful work, it is irrelevant, but the content of your poem, It brought a tear to my eye, and I am a Brit!

Well, ahoy across the Big Pond, my British friend. And just what, pray tell, would you change had you written it? Please, enlighten me, I can take it. Besides, have you noticed how poorly I've done in contests lately, Eric? Do you vote on them? I will take all of the (good!) helpful suggestions I can get, my friend.
Thanks for the review.

Well her's a shock for you my American friend, and listen carefully, NOT ONE SOLITARY WORD, would I change, it is nigh on perfect and if I were you, I would promote it to the Hilt! you had my last six, but if there had been a ten it would have been yours, take no notice of contests, they are not a true measure of a poets work, just write what's in your heart, as you have here, your fame will follow!
-
Thank you, Eric, and that is quite a shock. This was written from my heart, from a very deep place within my heart, to honor a fine young man and his selfless sacrifice to his sworn duty. We'll just see how it does come voting time.
Much obliged, Eric.

You are most welcome my friend, have faith in your words.
-
I have great faith in my words. it's those around me who claim to support me that I have very little faith in.
I do appreciate your heartfelt and genuine reply. I know that young Will would too.
-
You have my full support and attention with writing like this, God bless.

Thank you, Max, and he was a fine, upstanding young man. Such a waste, truly. But, Will did firmly believe in the cause for which he was fighting. And he paid the ultimate price for those beliefs.
Thanks for the wonderful review and most generous rating. I know Will would have been very proud.

Not one day should pass without each and every American, kept free and safe by the sacrifices of these brave young men, to bow their heads and pray for the lost and serving, and their families. Thanks for your poem of remembrance and the reminder of the costs of our freedom. All the BEST!

My words cannot adequately express the heartfelt emotions stirred by this most beautiful and touching tribute. Simply to say Braovo is not enough. Superb contest entry. Best of luck. Mostly, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this most precious hero.

Thank you for acknowledging Will and honoring his memory with your genuinely heartfelt review, Cajungirl. He was such a great kid, and had so much promise. Any life lost in war is heartbreaking, but I knew the boy very well. We all dearly miss him.
Thanks so much again.
