Wow! You've accomplished a lot in this. Great format, and repetition of Mr. President sleep well works really well. You lay out the suffering caused by war powerfully, with excellent details. Fourth stanza especially fine. Overall, outstanding. judi

Mister President, sleep well - this line adds so much impact to your poem. I do believe our current President wants peace, & not war, but how to get there is the difficult obstacle to overcome.

In the movie "Sargeant York," he was drafted in the service, but refused to kill. In one particular battle, the enemy was killing all of his men. He realized he needed to kill some of the enemy in order to save lives. He only killed the ones necessary & took the rest as prisoners.

Only God knows the best way to bring peace to world. He had to sacrifice the blood of His own Son to bring salvation to the world.

Interesting that you don't protest flying airplanes into buildings to kill thousands of innocents of many nations. Nor do you protest public maimings and executions. Nor do you protest the announced purpose of worldwide conversion to radical Islam with the promise of extermination for those who do not comply. I don't like this president for his domestic policies. I often didn't like the one before him. But ask yourself what you're doing to stop this dangerous political movement before you criticize the difficult decisions made by others while you sit by doing nothing. It's our soldiers who bleed. Not yours. Why?

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful review. Blessings and take care, Ine. This song that inspired me was from 1966. Well it is mainly yours, bu Holland has had some casualties to and is considered a reliable ally by the States.

    Sorry. I stopped living in 1966 in 1967. I was 14.

I married a professional soldier in 1972. I know first-hand what goes on in the minds and hearts of leaders who face, and who put, others in mortal danger. I live with one. Stoic acceptance of necessity is not uncaring, and the facade isn't easily maintained.

Ine, Vietnam needs to be over among those who did not serve. It's enough to deal with the unintended consequences every day without reliving Johnson's criminal politics, Congress' ineptitude, and the smug modern "I told you so" s of those who made no sacrifice - as required by law, by the way. It was crap. Let it go.

By hte way I am a second generation war victim and hubby's son got severely traumatised in Irak.

I'm sorry for your family's hardships, Ine. Our family also lost members in WWII, one is buried in Hamm, Belgium.

In regard to your sarcastic (not satirical) poem, this American is fed up with foreign nationals taking shots at us. Criticize your own politicians, Ine. I'm certain the Netherlands has problems of its own. Certainly the EU does.

Hi Ine. Very well written this lyric of this old protest song of Boudewijn de Groot. You expressed your feelings so well.
The sad thing is, nothing has changed after all those years.
It gives a lot to think about.. Thanks my friend for sharing this poem. Great job. Liefs Fia

so sad ,so impressive are the words, thought of the poet. yes of course the soldiers on the front line, the women ,children, sick perish in wanton bombardment, the humanity cries ....but the president not only of USA but all the tyrants all over the world sleep in their peaceful abode and dream about their victory, their triumph .it is so tragic so sad that sometimes we do not have the words to express our profound feelings .

This is an excellent write whether you agree with the war or not. All wars are wasteful there is no question there. The brave soldiers that sacrifice on the Presidents orders I take my hat off to. I love your poem it reads so well and I like you putting it on our Commander and Chief. War is sad no matter what and you make the reader think. Nicely done.

I love the poem. being a very philosophical person myself.
Your poem which holds much meaning seems to not flow fluently even for a free verse.

The picture you have selected compliments your poem greatly. With just a few touch up's I'm sure I'll return to give you 5 stars

Regards
Tia

Hi there Robina, Nice poem you have written here about the President. Have you watched the documentary Thrive, it's just come out and tells you who really is behind all the governments. It's very interesting, about a hand full of men that control, the foodchain, pharmacueticals, who started the war in Iraq are the same ones who blew up the trade centre, so America would go to war, reasons, oil and money. Download it from youtube or it's on my profile Thrive. Thanks for sharing

I think is is customary to have some rhyming scheme in lyrics and you do not have that here.
Below is also an spag:
Don't dream too much about all these (those) dead,
I like the intent but to me not a song yet.
