Talk about History class. Just so you know, I NEVER paid attention in that class. I always seemed to get distracted. However, I seemed to follow right along with your poem. Wonderful job and good luck in the contest

Excellent poem in a completely new style for me. Very clever to do it as a narration and truly shows that there are at least two sides in a war. very well written and an interesting read as well. Good luck in the contest Kay

This was an excellent poem about a great subject. It shows the true meaning of patriotism and a moment in American history which displayed true heroism. Thank you for sharing

Wish you the best of luck in this contest. This is very well written, the approach from two different views is an excellent choice. Allows us all to see the difference in interpretation and treatment during a period of war.

I was lucky to have been born in Japan after the war and not involved in the internment camps. My family followed the Hirabayashi v. United States case though the Supreme Court and were extremely disappointed it the Court's ruling. It was a sorrowful time in American History. Thanks for exposing this situation in your wonderful poem. Charlie

Hello Charlie: Yes, it certainly was a terrible time. This poem is based upon my the experiences of my uncle, Sargent William Kenel who did indeed suffer at the hands of his Japanese captors, but was killed by the missile of an American submarine as he and 1700 other POWS were being transported to Manila on an unmarked Japanese warship. "What Price Courage" might be of interest to you - in my portfolio. Thank you for your thoughtful review. diane

This is an interesting way of developing the parallel stories. I found it engrossing, and could see the poetry of it, reinforced by the opening and closing lines. The pathos of it was revealed early in the diallogue and I was always wondering where it would lead. My journey's end came with a pointless futility of suffering, inflicted on those who can be hurt, by those who should know better.

The echoes are really spooky. What I like the best is your using details that were authentic to the period. Excellent poem and a strong entry in the contest. Ray
