Well that was a pretty cool poem if I ever read one and absolutely correct and directly on the money too! That's a pretty cool picture you chose how very interesting too speaks a lot to me actually. I like how your calm unless it's the two sides of people just as the face that you've shown above. Very good job a profound piece of writing as well as an insightful one too that is relevant today. There's only one thing that can be done I hope your day is the best!

Thank you, Lea. You, especially, understand the core of this poem, having been raised by people who 'present' one way but who 'are' TOTALLY different. xoxo

How right you are. well done.
I've visited nursing homes and sometimes wondered whether there was some serious business within some of those helpless wheelchair-bound people.
Best wishes.

I hear you on that! I remember a friend of mine one time returning home from a nursing home visit and saying something I never ever forgot: "Those nurses there have no idea about the man he was. They're treating him like he's just some ordinary old guy."

Omg!!!!! I used all of my sixes. This was so wise. We do tend to judge a book by its cover. I have an older woman who is slow moving and sweet. Come to find out she was a combat nurse in Vietnam. You just never know. This was brilliant, Rachelle. Gretchen

Hi Rachelle,
now this is the way to start the year off... something to think about and then digest.
I love the message intertwined within the rhyme and flow of this inspiring composition. Inspiring because of the layers of difference that are the very same within the intent.
Each of us have so many more layers to our makeup, home life, professional life etc... you have simplified it to the core message and have done it beautifully.
A very pleasant and clever presentation with the contrasting colour font scheme to highlight the conclusion.
And on a personal level, one of the subjects I have consciously worked on in my life to achieve... and it's not as easy as one may believe it to be, as judging someone or something has its own layers of content.
Beautiful way to start off the year Rachelle!
With our thoughts we create...
a non bias connection.
Kindest regards,
James.

It is often the one with the nasty scar who has saved others. The smartest student is often the laziest. The biggest monster carries the largest heart.
Nice poem.

You totally get it. Thank you for this.

I really like this central theme and the examples you've provided are all fantastic. It's so easy to form a mental snapshot of someone and think you have a measure of the person. Not so. We are all three-dimensional beings and the metaphor of the iceberg is spot on. Beautifully done! :)

Thank you very, very much, Navada. I love the way you understand my point so completely. xo

I love this, Rachelle. I totally respect the message, and your form is perfect, in rhythm and rhyme. I wrote on a similar subject a few years ago, about how you can't judge a book by its cover. We, as a species, take so much for granted and, as you point out, miss out on so much as a result. I did add one point in my poem, that sometimes what you see IS what you get, but, like you, I tried to get the point across that you can't always take that for granted. One of my best friends runs homes for mentally handicapped adults. Many of them look like people you'd go out of your way to avoid on the street, but he's always making the point of how kind-hearted and loving they tend to be. We just need to look below the surface. Thanks for your gentle but pointed reminder.

Brava! What a great message for us all! Yes, there are so many superficial assessments going on all the time. And here in the casual Pacific NW, you would not be able to tell a millionaire from a bum based on clothing. Lol. It's best to honor all people.

What an outstanding work to be sharing with fellow FanStorians! There is so much truth to your words.
Covers can hide the heart of people and things.
You have truly made a striking posting, Rachelle! Love it, Lily
