LoL. It's so funny and true
Wonderful entry for the Holiday Limerick Contest. It's the best I've read thus far.
Good Limerick form.
I love the imagery and presentation.
Good luck in the contest.

reminds me of Anne Lander's letter decades ago. A man wrote in saying that since he was 20, he was a real health nut - did not smoke, did not drink, did not do drugs, did not engage in reckless sexual behavior, was a vegan, and worked out one and a half hours per day, including a five-mile run. On his 50th birthday, he just came back from the doctor, had incurable cancer. and had less than six months to live. He went out and got drunk that night first time since he was 20 and had a hangover but felt that he should have lived life rather than the ascetic almost monk like life he had had lived since 20. His advice to others was to live life and enjoy the pleasures of life -in moderation of course. Good advice. Re smoking I only smoked for one year gave it up as I was a broke college kid could not afford smoking ciggerates and drinking beer!

Hi Jake, So you were one of the smart ones!, quit smoking before you were hooked too bad. If I smell a cigarette, I crave it terribly. But not bad enough to start again. I love your story! I thank you so much for your very kind review for my limerick, and I appreciate all your thoughtful words. I think I may have already told you, but worth saying again, Merry Christmas to you, your beautiful wife, kids and grands .& Thanks again my dear friend!

Yes, I understand completely, my doctor can't take me off gambling, drinking, smoking (the Lord's already done that) and is trying to take me off a number of things that are supposedly not good for me, they are the devil's spoilsports, or at least not enjoy the rest of our lives, heh heh. Brave written Debi, blessings Roy

Hi.Roy, I guess since a limerick is supposed to be crude, this is about as crude as this girl can get. Haha! Y'know I could have been worse, now that I don't drink, smoke, or gamble, I do tend to crave choc truffles. That is my worst vice! Thanks for all your thoughtful words my very dear friend! And merry Christmas to you, your lovely wife and family!

Hi Debi,
This is a witty limerick about what resolutions seem to be. I hope we have a boring 2023 with regards to illness and war. I wish worry about those would end because war ends and illness abates.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Merry Christmas.
Joan

I love this poem. It reminds me of the quote from Waitress where she says "My mama used to say you can live to be a 100 if you give up all the things
that make you wanna live to be 100".

Cute and funny. Of course, you always seem to come up with a clever delivery. I will say this, being bored has never brought me to tears but I think it`s because I was diagnosed with dry eyes. Ha!

Well said. Good luck in the contest. I quit, but it took me too years and you are right it was worth it. Not only for the health benefits, but for the discovery of new ways to live and enjoy all that life has to offer. As I look back, boredom wasn't the problem, the almost primal urge to stick with the familiar even if it's bad for you...that was the problem. Thanks for the smile. Been there, done...still doing that.

Yes, your poem is a great New Year's poem. Quitting unhealthy habits can lead to creating good ones that are not so boring. Interesting theme for a poem that we can all relate to.
